I’m using a slot in a component so I can swap it out with another component instance (since it’s impossible to add anything inside a component instance). Seems like a viable workaround. The problem is, the component instance does not show up in the list when I search for it under “Swap instance” and I have no idea why. Also, I noticed that sometimes the option to select “Local components” (to show only those results, instead of a library) is missing. Again, no idea why. In other files it looks like this: Any help is appreciated.

Hello, today I updated Figma to Figma Desktop App version 116.18.6 and I noticed that general inputs in the properties panel (right sidebar) are not working. This includes numeric inputs via keyboard (font size for example – it lets me type in a new value, when hitting enter jumps back to old value) but also clickable inputs like text orientation or auto-layout settings. At first I thought this was due to component restraints but even creating a new object results in this. Creating a new document and pasting the elements there works. Restarting Figma also works, but only for a couple of minutes. This is a semi complex file with a prototype and about two dozen linked frames. I would prefer not starting over because the prototype link is kind of established within the team. Any hints on solving this or similar experiences? Thanks, Jonas

someone shared a Figma link with me and it created an account using my google account. I never use my google account do I’d like to delete that and use an email account. in my account settings, it’s asking for a password, but rejects it (because login via google?) so now I’m stuck with Figma account that uses my email address, but it’s really a google account. how to delete this completely and start over?

Hello! I’m exploring the new feature of using string variables to control things like the font family and weight of my text styles. I was wondering if there is, or if there plans to be a way of scoping variables for font usage (especially string variables, which seem to have no scoping options?) in the same way that we can for other usages? Currently, when I update all of my pre-existing text styles, I’m getting pretty much every variable available in my dropdown, which makes this already monotonous task even monotonous-er! Let me know if I’m missing a trick here 🙂

I was copying and pasting a few square shapes around when I noticed that one of the copies had merged into a single vector shape, with each area of the shape filled with a different color. I didn’t think this was achievable through manual editing of a shape. Typically, a vector can only have one single fill color (although I’ve been hoping Figma would release a feature to allow the same vector to have different fills). This shape is fully editable as a vector shape, and the colors can still be changed to different values. What’s going on here? Has anyone else encountered anything like this before?

When I select a file 1920:1080 and click on present to see how the design looks on the computer, but instead of the computer it opens to me as a phone. how to change that?

The person who manages our subscription was out on vacation while we received the billing notification. When trying to get approval from our finance department, we got locked out of our account. We had two admins submit multiple requests through the “Contact sales” and “Get support” links, tried the chatbot, and tried calling the phone number listed on the Google page. The only option was to call a sales rep, which was an invalid line, or to leave a message. Our creative team and dev teams had to reschedule multiple meetings and are pushing back deadlines because we don’t have access to our work. If anyone can help us resolve this issue ASAP that would be great.

I would like to create a multi-select checkbox that show user different results depending on their choices. *Eg. user will get sentence A if they check any of the two boxes out of the five checkboxes. If they select 1/5, show another sentence; If they select 3/5, show another sentence. Each time I activate a font (via FontBase) I have to restart Figma (desktop version) in order to access the font. Is this normal behavior or is there a way for Figma to recognize when I activate a font so that I can start using it without restarting?

Hi all~ I made a web section layout as a component with an image placeholder in it. When I used it as instance, I dropped in images to that image placeholder. But the images are not always the same size as the placeholder. It crops my image and I couldn’t rescale the placeholder. Is there any way I can make the real image drive the placeholder so my image won’t be cropped off? Hi everyone! I‘ve been using the blend modes of Figma recently to try to optimize generating a color palette with different shades. I used the blending mode ‚luminosity‘ with a certain brightness over a base color. Now I want to code what I‘ve designed. The problem is that I don‘t know what algorithm Figma uses to make the luminosity blend mode. Does anyone know? Most models just change the L value in the HSL which gives me different perceived brightness since the H (Hue) seems brighter for yellow compared to blue or red. In Figma, the brightness seems always the same no matter what base color I use underneath. I want to recreate exactly that. Thank you and best regards!

Hi, I have a main component which is a 2x3 poster frame with content clipped. I have duplicated this poster frame 4 more times for each ratio and resized it accordingly as instances of the main component. When I insert an image into the main component frame (2x3), I scale it to fit the frame which is all good. The image is then displayed in all of the other component instances however they are different sizes and the image crop is not sized correctly because it respects the size of the image in the main component. Is there any way that Figma can automatically scale these images width to match its parent component (instance)? I would to position the image so the whole image is captured within the frame. Im hoping I dont have to do this individually for each poster frame 😦 Please see screenshot of my issue: I hope someone can help me out here 👍

I’m wondering if there’s a way to do this using variables (or any other means). Here’s what I’m trying to achieve in practice: I have a NavItem component with a nested instance of an Icon component from an icon library. The Icon component has its own variants, such as a boolean property that makes the icon filled rather than having a stroke. On the NavItem component, I’ve created a boolean prop call IconType and tied it to the icon, in order to swap out various component instances. No problem there. But here’s the question: Say I want to give NavItem the boolean prop Active=true/false, and when NavItem is active then I want its nested icon to automatically display as the Filled=true variant. As far as I’m aware, there’s no way to do this without creating a separate IconType boolean property, called something like IconType-Filled. But this means every time I’d switch Active on/off on my NavItem component, I have to go back and re-select the desired icon instance—since now there are two

Is it possible to use Figma’s API to access the Library’s usage stats? (number of components, components inserted, components detached, etc.)

Hey! I’m trying to get a sense of how many styles from my DS file are being used in a given Figma file. I’m creating a plugin for my own use to get that data so I can store it in a file of my own through console.log. I noticed that textStyleId and fillStyleId are often Figma.mixed typed, which means I can’t know exactly how many types are inside. Is there a way to understand how many unique styles are returned when we have a Figma.mixed type being returned? I noticed that going to fills or any other styling arrays doesn’t help, since there are no ids in there. Thanks! PS: using Figma own features is not the purpose here, but thanks anyway if that’s your idea. 🙂 I’d really appreciate help in code.

I believe this was changed, but I don’t understand how is it possible when resizing an image that you need to press SHIFT in order to keep the aspect ratio. Is there an option to change that default behaviour?

Hello Figma world, I’m making a video player component in Figma with a few variants for aspect ratios. I want users to be able to “Fill” their parent layout both Horizontally and vertically while preserving the proportions of the variant they have selected. In other words I want to lock the proportions of my variants. I’m finding that it’s easy using contraints on basic frames but that both the “lock aspect ratio” and “Constraints” features are unavailable when working with instances and variants. So what can I do as a workaround? Thank you kindly for any help with this.
