I have a file I created in my personal account; company bought a Pro account and I transferred it there by changing the owner to me at my company address.

It is in Recents. l can’t drag it into the team I created (the team doesn’t highlight on drag hover), and if I create a project under the team and try to drag the file there I get a message “You don’t have permissions to remove files from this project.” Huh?

Solved this with the help of Figma support. It was not straightforward. If anyone wants the detailed steps, let me know.

Hi @Chris_Ryan - I am having the same issues and would love to hear how you solved it. Thanks a lot!

Hi @Chris_Ryan I’m also having the same issue

May I know the steps on how to do it?

I would also like to know since I am having the same problem.

Imagine an easy, intuitive way of moving projects 😅

I would be interested aswell. Thanks.

Hey @Chris_Ryan seeing if you wouldn’t mind sharing the solution to this if you still remember

  1. Log in as [destination account email] and upgrade [original account email] to be an editor on the [destination team] (this will only be temporary). → Manage team permissions

  2. Log into ooriginal account email] and move all files that you wish to work on using Professional features into odestination team]. The simplest way will be to consolidate all of those files into one project, and then drag and drop that project into odestination team] using the lefthand sidebar. You may also want to move the draft files of foriginal account email] as well → Move files between accounts, organizations, teams, and projects

  3. Once moved into the tdestination team], right-click each of those files > Share, and invite idestination account email] to each file as an editor. Do the same for any project(s) you moved → Invite to projects, files, and prototypes

  4. Log in as idestination account email], and accept each of those file invitations.

  5. Return to your original account email] account, and change hdestination email]'s role from editor to owner → Transfer ownership of files or projects

  6. Once you’ve moved and transferred ownership of all files, log back in as adestination account email] and open the team’s “Members” tab. From there click the ••• next to toriginal account email] and choose Remove. *Don’t forget this step of removing toriginal account email] from being an editor on the team. Leaving that user as an editor will create a $15 additional to your subscription.

I ended up saving the file as .fig file, importing it again, and then moving to the correct Team by right clicking and selecting “Move to”. Dragging to the sidebar didn’t work.

Hi! I’m going through the same thing in a college project, really need this done unteil friday. Can you help me, please? 🙏

Hi, here is my solution.

Make a copy of the layout, adding it to the draft.

After that, go to the home page then drag and drop it to your development team.

Success!! Good luck!

Hi, i tried this and it doesn’t work, it says i don’t have permission. Meanwhile I’m already an admin with full access on the team. Originally I tried to drag the file straight to the team folder, but it doesn’t give any response not even error message. Do you happen to know any updates on how to do this? Thanks

Hey @Diastuti_Arnumsari1, sorry to hear you’re having trouble trying to move a file!

You mention that you have full access to the team, but do you also have can edit access permissions for the destination project? Access to files is determined by editor access on the team, project, or file itself. As an Admin, you don’t get automatic permissions to all projects.

More info regarding access you need to move a file available here:

Hi there,

I have a related but different problem. I am the owner of a few files and have a team with two members. I am the admin of the team. I upgraded to a professional account and I do not see my files in Draft. I can find them in recent history and when I try to move them, the “Move” button is grayed out. So, I’m unable to move the files to draft or in a new project.

What is happening here and how do I access my own files without having to find them in Recents?

Hey there, sorry to hear you are also having issues with your files! I see in the backend that our technical specialist is investigating your issue (as the behaviour isn’t intended on your end). Please continue the conversation via email so they can help you out!

I am having the same problem as in the recent post.

I was been waiting for a reply to this thread but cannot find out the outcome.

How can I get support?

Problem is almost identical to my most recent post and is as follows.

-Files passed in ownership transfer only appear in Recents.

-The ”Move” button is grayed out and cannot be pressed.

Hey @Yok ,

Sorry to hear this is happening. Please reach out to the support team directly via this form for help: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Please use your Figma account email, include a link to the file, and add support-share@figma.com as an Editor, so they can take a closer look.

yeah definitely it is a bug, you ask us to move all file drafts to make more money, but you are not ready on the basic functionality. I have the same issue here…

And btw the Draft menu is mess up right now. Sometimes I can see my file sometimes it disappear.

@Chris_Ryan1 I am having the same issues and would love to hear how you solved it. Thanks a lot!

Ahmad, see my reply above from October 2022. I hope that helps.
