Hello!

There was a feature in Figma, that when you cycled between font families with the arrow keys, the text changed on the page to that font even before confirming the change.

Now with the new font window, you need to confirm your selection to preview the text in your page. If you don’t like it, you need to again open up the fonts window, and go through the process.

Photoshop behavior is much nicer, where you see the fonts in the window, how they are, plus there’s a preview on the page.

I believe this feature was working fine before the updates.

Have a nice day!

Norbert

Yes they need to bring that back! The update is nice but this is missing…

Why only 10 people voted this? Does everyone else design without changing fonts, has fixed which fonts to use, has remembered and knows how the fonts look like? Or am I the only one who doesn’t know how to use this new version Figma to preview font? 🥲

These are the methods I used to preview fonts in the last version,

  • After selecting a Text and clicking the font name to open the font list, We can’t preview and see how the font looks like when we hover over any font name / use the ↑↓ arrows to browse other font names / type other font name.

  • Double-click font name will only open and close the font list. Unable to highlight and copy paste it.

But now since the entire Text Section of the right sidebar and its user experience have been updated, none of the above methods can be used.

Is there any solution other than using the plugin Font Preview? This plugin is good, but the previous version of Figma that could preview fonts using the above method is better

This is a must!! When going through lots of fonts and trying to pick one you like, there are waaayyyyyy too many clicks involved!!

  1. Select your text

  2. Click on the font selector

  3. Scroll/search for font

  4. Select the new font

The font preview then closes!! So you have to click on it again if you don’t like it!

I want to be able to click on the font selector and type directly into the box, and use the arrow keys to go up and down the list without having to click into the font list again, meanwhile it should be previewing my text

Adobe does this perfectly, we shouldn’t be having to ask for this feature

I’m struggling with the same issue.

I’d love to see the old font selection back without a separate window.

I think we just needed the “font preview” feature, to be able to see the fonts on the list without the need to memorize them, just that would have been end game for real.

Figma had these feature where you could select the font/text dropdown and quickly toggle between all your fonts with the arrow keys it was SO USEFUL why would they get rid of these feature?! im livid.

I’d also love to see this feature back!

I’ve gotten so used to cycling through different fonts with the arrow keys to see what visually fits with the text content already there and now that option is gone.

Hey all thanks for sharing this feedback. This is actually on our radar to bring back! 🙂 There are, however, a few aspects of this feature that we hope to first improve/refine before we do, but will keep this thread updated when possible.

Thanks!

Hi, the new version doesn’t allow to change and review fonts by using up/down arrow. Users must click and choose the font without any reviewing how the text would show. This is really hard when making typography design. Please fix it! Thank you.

Yes! What happened? Bring it back please

This change has me severely pissed as I cannot even use the arrow keys on the keyboard to cycle through fonts that I have, I have to click all over the place.

Changes like these make me want to stop using a tool that changes my workflow on a whim.

I can’t comprehend how it doesn’t have enough attention. The fact you can’t use the keyboard at all to navigate through the options, or how it closes on it’s own even after you move it away from the sidebar so it doesn’t act like a dropdown.

We need this handled, and it’s infuriating coming from a Design tool.

Please take this back

*The font preview feature is really important

This situation is outrageous, I can’t believe we have been forced to deal with this for so long.

Who thought it was a good idea to remove accessibility from such a critical part of the application? Having to precision click to switch a font for preview is DRIVING ME INSANE.

Keep the damn window open at the very least, it’s aggravating.

In “Figma Learn” there is mention of this feature, and you can see how the window that appears is detached from the sidebar, something that you can do currently… but the thing works like it’s a dropdown.

You click it, and it closes. Leaving it open at the very least sounds like the bare minimum.

Update: This post was yanked from another thread into this one and context is somewhat lost. I’m not going to work on fixing the links.

I went ahead and found all the related entries to this issue, and added backlinks to keep all feedback condensed. It’s been over a month and this feature has disrupted how a lot of designers work.

Hey @MarioRicalde, thanks for the list!

We’ve merged all of the separate topics under one to compile all the Votes and feedback from the community.

As Josh already mentioned above, our team is already working on bringing this capability back. The team just has a few aspects to improve/refine before we do. We hope to be able to provide an update soon!

I can’t wrap my head around how is it possible to have this issue still. At the very least restore some of the functionality that allows us to continue working. This is so disruptive that there have already been claims that this RUINS THE APPLICATION.

How does that not merit a hotfix? At the very least keep the window open so that the designers don’t have to be eSports pros with all the precision clicking they need to do to switch fonts.

I am severely displeased with this change.

It’s absurd to need to remove the most basic functionality of all, simply viewing a font trough up and down arrows. If you intend to refine it, which I don’t see why, at least leave it as it was until it’s finished.

I couldn’t agree more with this sentiment and this statement that keeps getting referenced to is like salt to a wound:

Delaying what should be a hotfix for hopes to “improve” / “refine” is disrespectful to the people that are using your tool in to WORK on a DAILY basis.

Just get it done already. It’s been way too long.

Hello @dvaliao, I understand from your previous response that your team is diligently working on restoring this feature and making improvements, but it has been a considerable amount of time, and there have been several version updates since then, yet the issue remains unresolved.

Considering the time that has passed without an update and the urgency of this matter, I would like to Request a Rollback to Previous Version of the Software That Still Includes the Functionality We Require. Having access to the older version will allow me and other affected users to continue our work while your team works on restoring and refining the feature.

I genuinely appreciate your efforts in constantly improving the software, and I believe that providing the previous version as an option for users will be a helpful and temporary solution.

I sincerely hope that you understand the urgency of this matter and consider my request. Thank you for your understanding and prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your positive response and a swift resolution.

Agreed.

Releasing an unfinished feature and breaking all our flows is everything but the way to go. WE WORK WITH THIS THING.

Put it on your desktop instead of radar and actually fix it.

Why did you even respond? There wasn’t a single piece of value in what you shared. “Oh, we read this thread, we know about it, it’s on our radar”

Just.

Fix.

Your.

Mistake.

And stop doing stupid stuff to begin with.
