Hi, it could be nice to have a checkbox in the right panel of the editor to show or hide the variant names in the view
I manage relevant files by utilizing the pin to sidebar feature and sections, and really love the sidebar feature. At times there can be a lot of files there and many I don’t own, making it hard to always remember what file was for what. 😅 Would be cool and very handy if I could add little notes or comments to these files just for myself. Perhaps when hovering over the file in the sidebar (or the tab) and showing the preview thumbnail, it could show comments I have added to the file as well. This could really help add relevant info for myself to remember about different files. (Or if not per user notes/description for files, perhaps there could be a description field per file like components have that would show when hovering on files. I keep accidentally opening my design library file because of the more primary placement of the link in the new component controls UI. It’s given too much realestate IMO. And the component dropdown looks like the section headings without the diamond icon next to it. That little diamond was great for scan-ability
Current state: Sometimes this button will be among the icons near the right bar header, and sometimes it will go into the dropdown menu. And, unfortunately, it goes to this menu very often – because this button is given a very low priority (even the very rarely needed “union” function has a higher priority) In general, changing button location is confusing and slows things down. It is very hard to learn the pattern when this button will be visible and when it is hidden, you have to look for it every time How would I solve this problem? Ideally: leave all dynamic buttons on the toolbar as it was before (let it be wider, the emptiness on the sides is of no value, the workspace is above the toolbar anyway). Compromise: Leave the dynamic buttons in the sidebar, but display them separately from the “Go to main component” (which will be fixed) – give them their own row, where they will fit not just two buttons + dropdown, but six or more. Or increase the number of buttons when expanding the
Please, please, please add a presentation view for slides on mobile - its one of the main use cases thats currently missing. Additionally, a lowered RAM mode that optimises media for the device.
Have a feature request/idea for underline application that would really help speed up our team’s workflow and file maintenance. The Problem: We frequently create editorial designs (articles, etc.) and have to mock up inline hyperlink styles within body copy paragraphs to show stakeholders. For accessibility, we generally have to use an underline for our hyperlinks. The problem is that the underline function in Figma is limited to basic rich text styling and not editable at all. So, it’s super thin, same-color-as-the-text, and the spacing from the baseline b/w underline can’t be adjusted. I’m aware that we can manually add an underline/stroke instead and use auto layout to achieve our desired spacing/color, but the issue there is that it doesn’t flex with the actual body copy, causing us to do tedious adjustments so the underlines remain aligned with the respective hyperlink text as things in our designs change/update. The Idea: Is there a way to automate this in Figma somehow? Meaning,
My internet works perfectly, I can watch YouTube videos and check social media. I don’t want to panic but I can’t access my files ?? Error 504 Even on the browser I think it would be nice to work offline like other design tools ?
Would be possible to include other categories of type systems beyond grids as variables? Kimberly Elam proposed a taxonomy of GRID types for graphic design that was quite elastic. Not all webdesign need to follow the same GRID properties. In the taxonomy was documented: dilatational bilateral radial modular ramdom grid transitional axial Web design could follow: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Typographic-Systems-Kimberly-Elam/dp/1568986874
Icons in the Choose Instance panel are small and it hurts my eyes if I have to spend time trying out new icons by swapping instances. I don’t want to change the size of my entire interface to increase the size of these icons but that’s usually how I fix the problem. It’s pretty frustrating. Would be great to have a size adjustment feature or just increase the size of icons to reduce eye strain.
Floating bars with rounded edges are only aesthetically pleasing, but they add an annoying border between the tools and the window, creating annoying elements for the view that peek out from the edges. Lessi is more, remember? You seem to have copied other systems such as Miro or from your own FigJam. Truly, this choice is terrible, adds nothing of value and really worsens concentration and vision. Figma must remain a technical tool, not a video game. It must have the canvas CLEAN, without things popping up here and there from the edges of the windows. This thing doesn’t even look like it was designed by UX/UI professionals who have to work with software. It is really disturbing to work with something like this. Please: go back or at least give (forever) the option to use the old version (which is NETTLY better) with the exact same tools and functionality. Thank you.
Hello! Please consider changing the combination, because it’s hard to type an uppercase letter “D” now. I should type lowercase “d” first instead DevMode is activated 🥲
The component properties panel in UI3 is extremely difficult to parse when you have a complex component with nested overrides. Currently the only thing that differentiates a section header from a component prop name is the font-weight, making the sections blend into the list of component props and making it difficult to find the section you need. Making the section titles darker than the prop names would help with scanablitity.
When using UI2, pressing K to go into Scale mode and then pressing the Tab key would focus the width input, and pressing Tab again focuses to height input, for quick width and height adjustments. In UI3 this behaviour is changed, so that pressing Tab is focusing the anchor point selection, which makes this interaction worse, breaking muscle memory. I believe there is no need to change this in the new UI, as it is making the UX worse.
The layers panel feels noisier, the updated frames icon is hard too see.
Adding several properties to an annotation in DevMode is currently quite repeating: for each property, the “+ Property” has to be clicked again. Solution idea → hold Shift (or any other helper key) + click property adds clicked property, but keeps the dialog open.
We have an issue on our Figma in which we are still encountering an issue on our Figma pages. We have updated our font style to Avenir, and ever since we made this update, we keep having alignment issues with the text. For example, in the attached video (skip to 0:40s), the spacing of two sections is both set to 2, but they keep getting misaligned. The alignment corrects itself once we click on the text box. However, this is only a temporary fix. Each time we reopen the Figma file, the misalignment returns, requiring us to manually click every text box to realign them. video link: Unique Download Link | WeTransfer This has become quite time-consuming and frustrating. To avoid this ongoing issue, can you please investigate what might be causing this problem in Figma and provide a solution?
In the previous version, we could select nested layers with the ctrl + right button, but this functionality is absent in the present version. This is not user-friendly. Now we have to select layer option and then we have to choose the nested layer it is very annoying.
The current tiny blue dot of unread comments in combination with the slight faded text color of the read comments, in the right-hand sidebar, are too subtle to quickly distinguish. Please come up with a design where unread comments stand out more 😉 🙏
Similar to adobe and other design software—you can make the tool adapt to your workflow. Why can’t we re-position modules on the right panel? I really hate that “component” is now above the “position/size properties”. I 1000% prefer position to be pinned to the top with component controls following. I use position/size controls all the time on a variety of projects, and the fact that it moves around now is very unhelpful and slows things down. But why can’t everyone have it all? By allowing these modules to have standard stacked preset, as well as user-specified stacks?
I used to love editing vectors in Figma, to the point that I’m not even sure that I know how to use Illustrator anymore. But UI3 made the workflow for editing shape dramatically worse and cumbersome, adding steps to what once was right at our hands. Here’s a few things I miss from before that I hope gets fixed/reintroduced on UI3: Arrow keys to add/remove polygon and star count. These shortcuts seem to be gone and just don’t do anything now. Quick access to vector boolean operations. These were moved to the sidebar, way too far away from the toolbar which seems to be a more appropriate place for them to live, since it’d be close to the shapes menu. Also, they completely vanish when you select a shape? (see screenshot)
Could be super useful, i think, to have a selection tool similar to AutoCad. Depending from which way (left or right) you select your object, it will either select the individual elements or the whole object. Also it could be cool to have a free hand selection tool like AutoCad as well.
I want to create an icon set with ‘corner radius’ tokens via number variables to change the roundness of an icon by changing the mode. Example: I have a rectangle and I want to give each corner a different corner radius token via number variables to change only the mode and slightly increase the roundness for a huge bunch of icons. how the variables could look like Actually, Figma only supports that all corners have the same number variable. I made a gif to visualise the idea. If you could set different ones, the right shape would change as well.
All - In a perfect world I’d like to convert my Figma designs to vscode and MUI. I have gone through all the recommendation videos I can find but any suggestions are welcome. One thing I want to confirm - does it matter what design kit I use? For example, there is a dedicated kit for MUI but it is much less robust than others so I’d rather not use it unless I is the best way to create MUI code. I really appreciate any help
There is currently no way to see the current page in the Figma UI when the Pages section is collapsed. When you have a lot of pages and/or you have similar pages this gets confusing. Keeping the whole Pages section open is often a waste of valuable vertical space. Space that’s very useful for the Layers section. Maybe Figma can show the current page name somewhere in the UI? Maybe above the current file name? Or somehow in the Pages section? (not the prettiest solution)
Our development team (who only have view and devmode access) have complained that when trying to inspect components with complex interactions (ie: interactions buried inside layers), they simply have no idea the interactions exist without the designer placing myriads of comments or writing documentation to explicitly illustrate this which entirely defeats the purpose of devmode. I agree with the team that this is counter-intuitive and there should be a better visual indication of where a developer needs to inspect in order to see these interactions. At this point in time only a user with edit access can actually see the interaction pathways visually, and that’s simply not good enough.
