UI3 Feedback

You can switch to the old UI through the help menu at the bottom right, the ‘question mark’ icon. When you switch, please leave feedback that the new interface is awful and inconvenient.

Agree!! The visual noise created by the panels floating is really distracting. That sliver of movement down the edges when I zoom/pan my canvas pulls my attention away from my work and stresses me out. I really just want to be able to pop them back in to the edges of the app.

Component properties section
I find that the component controls are too high on the right-side panel, it makes the distance between designing and changing properties too far. It would be great to place this more in the center like it was before or allow us to rearrange the right bar to follow the order that works best for our workflow.

Bottom actions and assets
Why does this stay open after you drag the component you want onto screen? So annoying I always have to hit esc each time I drag what I want onto the screen. This wouldn’t be as big of a deal if it wasn’t directly covering where I’m working.

Layers panel - long names
This was an issue before but when there are many nested layers and the panel isn’t wide, you can’t view what layer you’re on. Might be nice to introduce a horizontal scroll.

Thank you for bringing the clip content checkbox back! Looking forward to the fill/hug updates too.

I agree with what’s being said! Especially regarding the following:

  1. Floating side panels - These are very distracting, as it seems like the panels could be part of the work I am designing as opposed to the app’s navigation/menus, plus the rulers & my designs sit behind the panels which is confusing for the eye.

  2. Bottom centre menu - The menu overlaps my work reducing the work area, and also gets lost in my designs. Regarding the ‘Actions’ button, it also requires multiple clicks to find my assets… also, why do common settings live in an area where I am use to only seeing my assets & plugins?

  3. Icon only buttons - The previous UI was very easy to use, as the icon-only button represented the function they had, e.g. ‘+’ = ‘to add’ but now these icons have been replaced with icons representing the object that is produced, e.g. ‘multiple shapes’ = ‘auto-layout’, I find this frustrating, as although this update is sleeker, it requires us to learn each symbol representation (and the action it triggers) as opposed to just using simple symbols we are already familiar with, e.g. + / -

Tommaso_Rota2

there are longstanding, grave issues such as this

but you spend time making floating panels instead…

I miss the old UI! 😦

A post was merged into an existing topic: UI3 - Show Layout Properties (Width/Height/Fill/Hug)

v_kosianchuk

Just pitching in to express my agreement - It’s a step backward while trying to make it look like a step forward.

Piling on. So many unnecessary updates and all at once is a huge speed bump for daily users. Not a fan.

Can we change the Component selection back to the way it was? We should be able to search on components, but also see a list of the components available. My creative team is not going to remember the names of components to go search for them. The only way having ONLY a search is to be able to add tags to components so the creative team can search based on attributes of the components.

When Figma announced the new UI, it immediately made me nervous but gave them the credit, that they (should) know what they’re doing.

The new UI is awful for productivity.

I work with external libraries 99% of the time, publish changes / update buttons are super hard to access / hit now and I use them 100x throughout the day.

Everything is tiny and hidden inside menus.

Reminds me of hardcore editing software.

Why do I need to re-learn how to use the tools that I use daily?

Too many changes at once.

Not built for speed and efficiency.

When working with white frames, it blends in with toolbars, before there was clear separation.

I must admit, I haven’t done a lot yet in UI3, but my first feedback surely is: please make the panels dockable to the left and right again, at least as an option. As stated many times before, it’d make better use of the screen space and would be visually less distracting. Also the visual inconsistency between the projects area (docked) and an open file (floating) would have been gone.

Hampus_Svallfors

I cannot say it sucks (I don’t know which metrics they track).

That said, I reverted to the classic version as well.

Agree with everything written here, want to add to this list:

it is very frustrating to figure out the size of elements that have been set to Fill or Hug, example: I have to do an extra click to figure out if my button is 126px or 128px width. This information should be visible at a glance without clicking similar to X and Y coordinates

Agreed. Super difficult to find anything. Everything is hidden

Ralf_Hoefer

It is visible if you slightly increase the sidebar’s width.

I’ve been struggling with the new UI. With every new version of any app there’s always a bit of an adjustment period. I’ve experienced this many times over my last 20 years as a designer.

That being said I feel like I’m being forced to revert. The new UI is so small and condensed I have to constantly scan and search for items that I didn’t even have to think about before.

I’m embarrassed to say how long it took me to find the bottom nav. I’m not kidding it was like 2 weeks. I’ve never seen a main menu floating at the bottom like this before. I couldn’t contain my laughter at how dumb I felt for not seeing it at the bottom or the page. Then again this whole UI / UX update feels like it goes against best practices.

“Lets move the main menu to the bottom of the page, hide functionality and make everything way smaller”… Best idea ever!

I’m giving up and reverting to the old UI. I gave it 2 months and I still hate it.

Markus_Krumscheid

Totally agree! This thing is broken hopefully they make adjustments or even better, revert back to the “old” UI…

Leonardo_Falaschini

They made my work unnecessarily harder, and I suspect it’s just to accommodate for an AI feature no one asked for and could still be integrated to the old UI in a less impactful way.

Why, we also get cat mouse pointers! (I love cats, sure; one is lying next to me right this moment, but…)

Kartoffel

Here to second exactly this. There is no reason for this toolbar to be there except for the very novice friends coming to Figma… Let us remove it please 🙂

Eldin_Herenda

I still haven’t updated to a new UI and waiting for it to try it 🙂 I also heard from colleges they have difficulties finding some tools and options in the new UI. Can someone tell me how to update it to a new version?

Looks like the feedback has already been partially taken into account and implemented:

x.com

It remains to be seen what changes are still to be expected.

For everyone without a Twitter account… This is what Joel Miller stated in his thread:

  • 1/ The first is out now; we’ve updated the Clip Content control from a dropdown to a checkbox.
  • 2/ We’re making constraints much more efficient to use. Coming soon, you can toggle on the control and it will display inline, making it much quicker to edit.
  • 3/ Many of you flagged missing pixel values when working with resize modes in Auto Layout. We’re changing these controls so it always shows both the pixel value and resize mode.
  • 4/ We’re increasing the number of actions that are shown for a layer and are exploring ways to make sure important ones like mask and boolean ops are visible when you need them.
  • 5/ We’re adding library information for components, bringing back frame orientation controls, and making improvements to blend modes. All coming soon.
  • 6/ Many of you have given feedback on other areas, especially rulers and the floating panels. We know there’s still room to improve here, and we are working through some ideas. Stay tuned for updates!
  • 7/ As always, thank you for all the feedback on UI3
Redesigning a UI can be intimidating, especially for designers. We know redesigns can take some time to get used to, but your feedback is helping us build the best possible experience. Keep it coming! More updates coming soon.
