Hi everyone, We’ve established a design system in Figma using templates. Our current process involves duplicating templates and then manually adjusting the colors, typography, and other design properties for each project. While this works, we’re looking to streamline the management of design tokens, especially when it comes to colors. For example, when we change the primary color, we want the related color variations (like hover states) to automatically adjust without manually updating each one. At the moment, we’re unsure how to automate this process effectively.

Hey everyone, We have a custom solution that pulls all of our assets from Figma to code. With vectors, there are, of course, no issues. However, with images, we are working on a process to optimize them as best as possible. Does anyone have examples of how they optimized this process on their side? Currently, we are exporting images at @1x, @2x, and @3x sizes, converting them to .webp, and storing them on S3. The quality is okay, but we are trying to achieve the best possible quality while keeping the file sizes as small as possible (if only it were easy). I’d love to get input from the community if anyone has managed to optimize this. Thanks!

Figma does not seem to reflect the order of the property options all of sudden… It was working fine until a few days ago. How the propery labels ordered in the design system How Figma shows when the component is used in design file This is very inconvenient and annoying. Is anyone experiencing the same?

Using the rest image endpoint, I can get the image of a layer, but in trying to recomposite the layer, do I don’t want the image to include the children within it. Previously I was using the plugin api, and would hide children, export image, then show children. I’d really love if this end point would support this functionally. Thanks!

So I want to have 2 shapes fused together with a line separating them, that line being from one shape, but when I union them both, there is no line separating them and I can’t remove one side of the stroke from the bottom shape. Close to what I want to achieve: What happens when I union: I want the outcome of what happens when I union, but the separation line as seen in the first screenshot. I would greatly appreciate any advice!

Hello! One of our students, who has previously been verified and joined our team in the end of May this year, recently received a letter informing him that his access to the Education Plan will expire in 4 weeks and he should be verified. So he verified again. Is that mean that from now he can use Education plan for 2 years?

Hey everyone! I hope this post finds you all very well! First of all, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to go through this, and here is the thing: I’ve been trying to create a spinner loader from scratch for learning purposes by following different tutorials with little luck; I’ve kept the same names in layering and spun only the circle inside the variants within the component. When after a while neither of these worked I tried with two different community spinner loader files, and again the animation didn’t work on the prototype preview mode I began to think that something might be wrong with my installation of Figma desktop, so I tried on the web browser version of this software and it didn’t work either… My question is: Do you guys know what I might be doing wrong? Or if there is anything I should configure in Figma’s setting in order to see these amazing spinners spin? Looking forward to hearing from you, Alike

I cant give edit access to my mentors

When moving components from one file to another the instances do not update properly. Some of the lower level instances are updated such as toggles and buttons, but the high level flow component still gets the “restore component” option. I got the “move to this file” message when moving over the main component, so it should work should it not?

I’m experiencing weird lag inside Figma projects only when pinned files are shown on the Figma desktop app. Restarting Figma, clearing the cache, and restarting my computer hasn’t fixed the issue. It occurs inside every project with pinned files. Anything else I can try to fix this issue?

We’re encountering an issue where we are unable to use the search functionality on a file. Specifically, we use keywords inside of component properties, exactly like outlined in Figma documentation here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/7938814091287-Add-descriptions-to-styles-components-and-variables The Figma documentation explicitly says this is possible: “Figma will look at component descriptions when returning search results. So you can use descriptions to tag components with relevant keywords.” We’ve had this work flawlessly in the past, but are suddenly unable to search by descriptions for components or variables at all. As well, some components aren’t even showing up by exact name in search results! This is happening both on files with many hundreds of components, and test files with only 5 or so components. We’ve tried publishing the file, reloading Figma, etc, with no luck.

I was approved for a Figma Education plan in July this year. However, I just received a mail stating that i have 4 weeks left. Isn’t it supposed to last 2 years betore a renewal?

I created dropdown menus via components and variants for my prototype. The dropdown menu work great. The user is able to select “Subscription” or “One-Time Purchase” Here is the issue I am running into: There are two dropdown menus. Main dropdown: Subscription or One-Time Purchase Sub dropdown: Subscription Options 1 month, 2 months, 4 months If the user selects the “One-Time Purchase” option I am unable to have to automatically change the sub-dropdown menu to reflect the one-time purchase options (1 bag, 2 bags, 3 bags)

If I buy 1 seat in team as part of Professional plan, will I have the possibility to restore the pj? And will it be possible if I’m not the admin of the team?

Hi there! I’m reaching out regarding a pain point I always experience at the end of a project. The flow goes like this: I start a new design file, add the clients to it —normally as an editor— and then, once the project ends, I ask them to duplicate the file so that I can downgrade their seat to view-only. Is that the correct way to go about it? Is there a better / smoother way to do so? There’s cases where I work on and off for the clients so honestly not sure if I should ask them to make me an editor of the file on their end after duplicating the original I delivered? Feels so off. Any advice on this would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

why Figma’s Ai suddenly gone? it has been handy for several purposes when designing

What I really want is a track changes feature for editing Figma Slides — but that doesn’t exist, so I’m looking for a workaround. The impetus for this question is that I have to edit a deck with slides contributed by multiple people — and I need them to be able to see specific changes where I edited the text or position of their slides in the deck. I’m totally spitballing some ideas here, but they are pretty convoluted — so if you know a better tactic to achieve tracking changes while editing, please share! From what I’ve been able to piece together, it seems like branching (or possibly compare changes in dev mode?) could be a solution — however, it appears that branching (and compare changes in dev mode) are only available for design files, not slide files — so I’m wondering: Is there a way to convert a slide file into a design file so that I can create a branch (or compare changes in dev mode)? AND, when I finish editing, is there a way to convert the design back into a slide file ag

Hey guys, so I’m making an expandable table for game stats for my platform. Each of these stats are broken into 2 segments: total score + each player’s stats. The total score comes with the category label for the stat packed into the initial component and in a separate component for each player’s stats. I’m trying to have the width of the numbers in the player stats = to the width of the stat category name as each stat can have a different amount of characters. I don’t want to have a set width on the category titles as it would be awkward looking, but I want to have consistent uniform look vertically for each stat’s column. Hello everyone, I’m trying to discern what the underlying issue is here. This has only been really presenting itself as a problem in the past few days, but for some reason almost any Figma project I have open winds up consuming essentially all of my system memory. I’ve noticed that this happens regardless of how many project files I have open. While I’m not experiencing any crashing of the application, it does bring my work laptop to a grinding halt and creates an essentially unusable experience. Is there any reason Figma is utilizing so much memory? Are our working files just too large? For reference, I’m using the desktop app on macOS 10.15.7 and as far as I am aware this is the latest version available. I’m really scratching my head over this one as to why it’s popped up as an issue so suddenly. Granted this Macbook Pro is just a base configuration, so it may just be a performance limitation, but I wouldn’t expect Figma to be stressing the machine out worse than Adobe’s Creative
