Show frame name in prototype

Marianna_Pascucci

Hello,
I got a problem while prototyping and I would be interested in your opinion about it. When you’re prototyping on a big project we all know that it becomes really difficult with all those lines connecting a component to another one.
I usually use the prototype to test the interaction but what if when I find an error on the prototype? It becomes really difficult to understand which precise frame it is.
So in the prototype preview, I think it would be great to have not (only) the screen number “12/56” but the name of that frame to make it easier to find in the page.

I don’t know if I’m the only one experiencing this problem (maybe it’s just because I’m not using the right way to prototype?).
Have anyone of you experienced this?

We don’t show the Frame name but if you click on the little dropdown next to the prototype name you should see an option for open in editor. This will then take you back to your design file with the current frame selected and centered in view.

I name my frames to specify a feature or screen change, but when I go into present mode I loose all of that context. Some frames might have a slight change, but my client or devs don’t have context to the change and I think showing the frame name would help.

This seems a little more useful than adding a comment that needs to be turned on to see.

Hey Reggie, frame names aren’t currently displayed in the prototype presentation. Feel free to add this as a new topic though under the Product Feedback category.

Out of curiosity though is there a reason for not sharing the editor view in view mode?

We tend to use editor mode to present work to clients, but when we share those designs to view on their own we only give them view access to the prototype view. We want to make it seamless for them to review designs without needing to create an account or understand how to navigate the editor.

I name my frames (wires) to specify a feature or screen change, but when I go into present mode I loose all of that context. Some frames might have a slight change, but my client or devs don’t have context to the change and I think showing the frame name would help.

This seems a little more useful than adding a comment that needs to be turned on to see.

Example: Adding inline, above or below the page counter < 1 /13 >framename

Hmm… This sounds like a bug. Possibly try submitting a bug report?

You could also check out the Figma Help Center.

Hope this helps!

Nope note a bug just something Figma doesn’t currently support. We don’t show Frame names within the presentation view. 🙂

Feel free to vote for this suggestion and add anything relevant: Show frame name in prototype

I agree with @Marianna_Pascucci , although I’m aware of the Open in Editor option. Often I want to keep an eye on the frame name, which does not mean I want to jump immediately to the editor. A subtle option to show frame name (even on demand) would be useful to me.

ignaciogiri

This option would be really helpful. Doesn’t need to be turned on by default, but give us the option to see it.

Christophe_van_Engelen

During the user test.
One person facilitates, another takes notes.
With Figma, it is very difficult to analyze because we don’t know from which screen the insights comes.
Please correct this. It’s not a nice to have, it’s a basic element.

Darren_Kurre

Agreed… please add this under options. Seems like a simple fix.

I agree should have frame name show on prototype

Seamus_Leonard

This feature would allow the designer to use BAM (block element modifier) style names for frames to help communicate design intentions with the stakeholders.
For example for a viewer sees a frame named “VIEWPORT / PAGE / STATE” would allow any them to understand where in in the prototype & user journey they are. This is especially useful when in wire-framing before complex interactive flows are added.
I realize that clients can comment inline on frames, but many prefer to comment in external tools ans references to “Page 15/24” can loose their place when more screens/states etc are added.

This is a huge miss - we share prototype links with stakeholders, and often they don’t know which page they are on to reference. Having the page name somewhere accessible via the prototype is definitely a need to have.

I agree with everyone else in this thread. This is a feature we need.

I agree! I have stakeholders who are confused and slightly upset about this. Would be a great feature to have the option to enable 😃

there has to be at least 5 different scenarios that involved the usage/demo of some prototypes where I wished I could see name of the frame from within the prototype. Please add this.

Sergio_Ferrer

I also would like to have this feature! It is counter-intuitive to conceal the name of the current “screen” like that!

We need this feature!!

Mathew_Lucas

Would love to see this in the product, even as an option in prototype mode for on/off.

So many clients need this while looking around the prototypes and giving feedback.

This would be very helpful if we could see the frame name in prototype!

Adobe, please, we need this feature 🥹

After coming from XD, I really miss this feature. The evaluators do not have the right to see in editors. They are being shown in the Presenting link only and without Login. They come to me with screenshot rather than frame no as to where the changes to be done which is messing up and taking time. Please just show us the frame number which is presented and we will be fine 😦 😦
