I’m encountering some issues with Figma; regardless of whether the file has many pages or few, the operations are very laggy. I’ve tried changing my network and using a VPN, but neither has made a significant difference. What should I try now?

Super slow for me… macbook pro m3 was all good before your updates… please bring performance back,

The whole problem started a while back, when variables were introduced. Ever since everything has suffered in performance. First, it was noticeable on prototypes, especially when using variables, conditionals, the whole lot. Prototypes became slower and slower. By now, we have to look into other options to utilize prototypes as Figma is becoming more and more unusable.

Now with the latest updates it is only getting worse. No matter the platform, whether browser or desktop app, it is laggy. All files, all components. The more nested they are, the worse it seems to get. The whole “what made Figma so good” is suddenly not there anymore. And now you are even charging us more for less performance from March on.

How about you stop pushing features and actually fix your issues for a while? You are market leader, so we can live without new features for a bit. 🙏

Figma’s growing bugginess and declining speed are making it increasingly unusable.

I think there’s a bug right now, if I open my file my memory is at 6%, I change one tiny thing it jumps to 30% and seems to look into almost every frame in my file according to the memory manager? This used to only happen when I was updating components but I’m not doing that right now

I know this post doesn’t suggest any direct means for Figma to improve but performance and speed isn’t related to a single feature.

I want to keep this thread alive and strong because, to me, the core difference between Figma and previous tools has always been that “Figma is fast”. In 2024, speed and quality have suffered a huge drop and when I’m working everyday I start to feel Adobe’s and other bad software’s vibes. It’s looking like when a tool has forgotten it’s essenc, lost track of their users needs and started prioritizing growth and money above else.

I’m having worse and worse slowness & lagging across all my files. Support’s suggestion was to “Restart and clear cache”, which helps, but I’m now having to do it multiple times every day to keep Figma usable. Library updates take forever (up to 5 minutes for a few components), and it seems like the more child components are in a file, the slower it runs. Frustrating!!!

I don’t know if this topic is still active, but I haven’t been able to use Figma for several weeks now. The frame rate while working is just terrible, it’s impossible to drag a single element without freezes or lags. All these suggestions about clearing the cache through the terminal or changing the UI don’t work and seem like a complete mockery of users’ issues.

Can relate. Restarting app takes too much time every signle day to call it comfortable

Hey everyone! I completely understand how frustrating this must be. Performance issues like lag and freezes can really disrupt the workflow.

Please try clearing your desktop app cache to see if it helps resolve the issue: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040528973-My-files-are-not-opening#id

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, please reach out to our support team using this form: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. When contacting them, be sure to export your console logs and share them—they can be really helpful in pinpointing the issue.

If you have any other details to share, feel free to add them when contacting support, thank you!

I am having the same issue. It's becoming totally unusable - I have submitted 4 bug reports in the last week about this.

Hi @AnnaRocca, sorry for the frustration!

I can confirm that our support team has received your bug reports, and we’re trying to help on ticket #1227777.

Hi all,

As announced on X, the root cause for spike should be fixed; you might be prompted to refresh your tabs.

If you’re still experiencing issues, please let us know so we can get to the bottom of it: https://figma.bot/submitreport

Thanks!

Toku

The issue is still occurring, it seems to be with the new UI, switching back to the old ui makes everything much faster. Still completely unusable with new UI.

Hey @MikolajS , sorry to hear you are still having issues! Could you please submit a report using the link below so we your look into this?  https://figma.bot/submitreport

Please also try to refresh your tab again and please let us know if things are working better.
Thank you!

Same.
Figma is laggy, this is very frustrating...

I have the same problem. Is there a solution?

Hey everyone, thank you for flagging this! I’m really sorry to hear you're running into this.

To help us get to the bottom of this, I’d love to gather a few more details:

  • Are you using Figma in the desktop app, browser, or both?

  • When did you first start noticing the slowdowns?

  • Is this happening in one file or across multiple?

  • Is it consistent or does it come and go?

  • Have you tried restarting or resetting Figma — and if so, did it make any difference?

If you're able to share a screen recording of what you're seeing, that would also really help us understand what's going on.

Appreciate your help!

Hello, still facing the mentioned performance issues.

I used to use the old UI as a solution, but now that is no longer available, I have to deal with the new UI, and is affecting terribly my work, especially when I am sharing my screen on MS Teams.

But today I also noticed very bad performance while I was on a video call (not sharing my screen) but following a teammate on Figma.

My machine is a Macbook Air M2 with 16GB or ram, and unless I’m in a call, the performance is OK. But when sharing my screen… it’s ridiculous slow.

However, the same file, with the previous UI, worked fine.

I’ve tried so many things:

  • Using everything on the browser (Teams, Figma, etc)
  • The web-version on MS Edge and Safari and the desktop app of Figma
  • Clearing the cache, or restarting Figma

So far, I think the performance is slightly better if I’m using Figma on the web on Safari, but still the performance is quite bad when sharing my screen.

The file I’m working on is big, but splitting into several files at this time is not something I can do at this moment, and taking into account that with the previous UI, the performance was great even when sharing my screen, my suspicions are related to the new UI and the new features, like everybody else is commenting.

Hey @eric-7298346, thank you for providing detailed explanation on your issue!

I’ve just created a support ticket on your behalf, so our support team can investigate what’s causing this. Your ticket number is #1356766, for reference. Someone from support should be in touch with you soon.

Please notify the team when you first started to notice this, is this recent? And does this occur in one specific file or all files?

I do understand performance issues can be really frustrating, hope to see this issue get resolved for you.

In the meantime I recommend using Figma on the web browser. Appreciate your patience!

Thanks,

Gayani

I also want to add that for the past year I have been suffering greatly from poor performance in Figma.

It is UNUSABLE when I’m sharing my screen in MS Teams, the mouse cursor is lagging like 2-2.5 seconds behind, can BARELY pan the canvas (lags a lot), and so on…

Even when not sharing on Teams, performance is still slow and laggy.

I have a MBP M3 Pro with 18 gigs of ram (performance is bad even if nothing else is open besides Figma after a fresh restart)

Tried EVERYTHING, Reseting and clearing cache, hard uninstalling and reinstalling the app, using through all 3 browsers (Edge, Safari, Chrome)
ALL lagging for me.

Is there a way to solve this?
I have asked my colleagues, and though they also see poor performance, it is not to the degree that I am experiencing.

It’s SUPER frustrating!

Hey @Elyran Malka — I’m glad we connected here, and I’m really sorry to hear about the performance issues you’ve been running into. I appreciate you taking the time to lay out all the details — super helpful for us as we dig in. 🙏🏻

I’ve gone ahead and opened a case with our Technical Quality team so they can take a closer look into specifics. When you have a moment, check the inbox tied to your Figma Forum account for an email from me (look for case number: 1419677) with next steps to help us investigate further.

We’ll work with you to get this sorted out. And if anything else comes up in the meantime, feel free to reach out to us in Figma Forum. 💯

Hi,

same problem here, it’s almost unusable, and my whole team (several setups, locations, etc.) are experiencing the same problem. Lags and freezes can take 30 percents of my time using the tool. Every day. For months.

It became almost impossible to share screen with the in house devs (I’m UX designer), it’s so slow they’re asking us to provide pdf export to see the wireframes we’re producing. We had to remove Figma from our working process because it’s not usable anymore.

It’s really hindering our work process, and to be honest if we find an alternative design tool for the company we’ll be tempted to change as fast as possible.

I’m using Figma for years (but also Adobe XD, and Sketch before this), and I have became a detractor. I advise people to try something else because you’re not as good as you were 2 years ago. In fact, you’re not a good tool anymore.

Does these lags comes from your decision to kill your golden goose (Figma)  because you tried to have several of them (your other products, which are not very successful from what I have heard)?

Hi @Adrien.Picard ,
Thank you for taking the time to share this. I really hear how disruptive and frustrating this has been for you and your team, especially given how central Figma is (or was) to your design workflow.
What you’re describing is definitely not the experience we want anyone to have, and we are truly sorry it’s reached a point where it's impacting collaboration and leading to PDF workarounds. Performance issues like lag and freezing can sometimes be specific to file setup, network environment, so we’d love to investigate further with you to understand what’s happening.

I’ve gone ahead and create a support ticket on your behalf so our support team can take a closer a look at it. If you're open to it, in the support ticket please include:
- A link to one of the affected files
- A short screen recording showing the behavior
- Your system specs and browser version
- Granting support-share@figma.com "can edit" access to the file (this won’t affect your billing)
- a recording of your Chrome performance profile

This will help our team take a closer look and identify what’s going on.

For reference, your support ticket is #1442740. Please also check your inbox (via your Figma email account) when you have a moment.
Thanks again for the feedback, it helps inform our ongoing improvements! 🙏🏼

Hi @Celine_ ,

I can’t share my files or a video (high confidentiality domain), and about the browser version and specs, I have tried it with all browser, and the problem also occurs in the app.

But it’s affecting anyone using Figma, as a visitor, dev or designer. And we’re all using different setups.

You did not answered my question: did you reduced the resources allocated to Figma for your new products?

Regards,

Adrien
