Hello 👋, I’m with an issue on prototype play these days, while I’m in play, interactions such as hover and click take a long time to happen, I have to wait for each screen, as if it were loading for about 2 to 3 minutes. I tried creating a file just for the prototype, thus reducing the amount of screens and scribbles, but it continues very slowly. Is anyone else going through this too? Any help on how to resolve it?

Hi Figma Community, I have been having problems moving variables / variables collection from one file to another. I’m trying to move frames with variables attached to them from one file to another and create local variables in the new file. But when I try no new local variables are created and this dialog is not showing for me either: I have unpublished the variable collection from the library before copying to the other file. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi, By running /v1/files/xxx I get the list of components used remotely but they only tell me remote: true, it doesn’t give me information about the fileId or the component. A way to have this property is to use the /v1/components/$KEY_ID endpoint. But it requires doing 1 call per component. Since I’m having a bunch of third-party components, I’m wondering it there is a way to get multiple at once at we could do with a /v1/files/xxx/nodes?ids=aaa,bbb,ccc?

the rest api returns a list of published components according to docs https://www.figma.com/developers/api#get-files-endpoint This list does not include unpublished components. Is there a way to include them in the response?

Question, not sure if possible and struggling with this: Having an internal company file, say a “template” file…is it possible (via a private plugin) to copy/clone etc the “template” file structure into a new empty file? (pages + pages contents, instances…everything). My approach to this (without any coding yet) would be to call the Figma API with the “template” file ID, and, from the JSON response, try to (clone?) each page. I have tried calling the API like that and the “template” file response from API comes as page nodes marked with type “CANVAS” instead of “PAGE” as I would expect. How to proceed from here?, if possible.

Unfortunately I have not found a solution. The following situation: I have a header box with a box-shadow. In this header box is a user avatar icon that opens a dropdown menu with further options for the user when clicked. This dropdown also has its OWN box shadow. But now the box-shadow is inherited from the header and the box-shadow of the dropdown looks horribly bad. How can I prevent this WITHOUT positioning the dropdown absolutely and placing it outside the header box? It seems to me to be a pretty standard case that there are dropdowns within boxes that also have a shadow. So I don’t understand why you can’t set this separately. In the example shown here you can see that the shadow is displayed correctly if the user icon is placed outside the header box. Which of course cannot be a solution. Thank you for your attention! 🙂

I’m developing an icon plugin for my team. The plugin successfully pulls icons from a published DS foundations file into the plugin. These icons can then be inserted into the Figma canvas while maintaining the link to the design system. This part works great. The problem I’m facing is displaying the icons in the UI. I’ve tried various approaches but haven’t found a solution yet. I’ve added the file key and Figma ID tokens as I understand them. If anyone has experience with Figma plugin development or UI implementation, your insights would be invaluable. Does anyone have a list of what you and can change in a library component update before that component breaks? By breaking I mean instance use across design teams, overrides being reset etc. I have a large library I am designing and managing and there are times when new requirements are needed for existing components and I am finding it tricky to nail why somethings break, some dont. Example if you change the name on a boolean it seems to break any instance but why, it’s just a name change? Example was a table cell component that had a boolen to turn on a checkbox. Later the requirement was to be able to switch the checkbox to a radio, so we created a part which could be switched between checkbox and radio and replaced the checkbox. That didn’t break the component’s instance until we changed the boolean name from “Checkbox” to “Row Selector”. Which then when we tested the component via a dummy library all instances with checkboxes turned on all turned off as it no longer associated tha

I have a bar chart frame that uses nested levels of auto layout, and it behaves differently in Figma Design and Figma Slides. It also exhibits seemingly buggy behavior in Slides. In Design, I can resize the parent frame (which has fixed dimensions) however I want and the child frames retain the correct auto layout properties. When I resize the same element in slides, as soon as I try to resize it in any direction the auto layout settings change from “fixed” to “hug” on the parent frame and the frame can no longer be resized in any way. Any ideas on what’s happening here? I can create a bug report if that would be helpful.

If I lock the Group Objects, and then unlock it, the group is destroyed. It is such a pain if you are working with complex data. Can this be resolved quickly?

I’m at the point with autolayout where I can generally achieve what I want, but not in a rapid, predictable, or masterful way. The ongoing problem: rather than being able to make a single change in in single shot, I inevitably have to fuss with 2-3+ layers. And my changes all too frequently have unwanted side effects. So even when things eventually look right, I’m not clear or confident on exactly how/why it’s working. So, I have been trying to pinpoint the root cause misunderstanding. My conclusion thus far is that everything generally works better when starting from the inside-out. That is, put fixed values and padding as deep in the hierarchy as possible, and let progressively outer container layers react to their contents. (As opposed to starting from the outside-in, and trying to to make progressively inner layers react to their containers.) However, the official docs don’t say that explicitly. They don’t even really acknowledge the concept of an inside-out vs outside-in approach

On the web version of Figma, I’m unable to use the ‘Undo’ feature - whether it be through the keyboard shortcut, or into Edit > Undo. Neither work.

In today’s fun with Figma… Applying the variable for the border thickness of an accordion. Cannot apply a border variable to the stroke. Even when you try to manually do it and change to a variable, no. About halfway through this video, you see where I manually add a border, THEN change to the custom setting. Now I can apply the border thickness variant to individual sides. Never to the whole border. But yes to individual sides.

Help, Figma’s lagging Black bars appear on the sides, start flashing, both the left and right menus flash, and the top ones where the projects are located I have Windows 10 and a 3060ti video card

Hi There, i’m learning auto layout features, while i’m doing this exercise i have to combine two auto layouted objects in an bigger one. When i create another auto layout the position of the earliers change, and i don’t know how to clean up this mess. Does someone know the solution ? Thanks ! Here i’m attaching a screenshot, the resault i would like to achieve is one big auto layout wich contains the other two smaller one, but without changing position
