Yup, still happening. Today it literally stopped working about 1 second after loading Figma desktop – was in the middle of a pinch to zoom haha.
Same here. Both Figma and Figjam. MacOS + desktop app.
Does anyone else think it’s ridiculous that the company that just got acquired for $20B still hasn’t fixed this? It’s been happening on my machine for about 4 months straight now.

Thanks for your reports and information. We know this is disruptive to your workflows and are actively looking into this issue, but we haven’t been able to consistently reproduce the issue internally. Additionally, there seems to be an OS-level issue that isn’t specific to Figma that is related to this issue. We’ve reached out to Apple via their feedback system but have not received a response.
Here are some more recent threads about other users complaining about this on macOS Ventura/Monterey for other products (e.g. Miro, Adobe).
We are actively trying to reproduce the issue and have not been able to get a reliable reproduction internally, which makes progress on this issue challenging. If you are able to reliably trigger the problem or have noticed patterns when the problem occurs, that would be helpful information for us.

A workaround, at least for me on Mac OS Ventura, is going to Settings > Trackpad > Scroll & Zoom > Then toggle off/on Pinch to Zoom in or out. That should fix it temporarily.

Really hope this is fixed, but it’s been over a year so idk… I believe it’s also an Apple issue, not Figma, but they may be connected somehow 🤷
Hi @John_L - today I had two figma windows open, one on my MacBook screen, the other on an external monitor. The pinch and zoom issue happened every time on one of the windows. It seemed if one window worked, the other wouldn’t work, and vice versa.
When I closed the figma window that wasn’t working, and then reopened it, that window would start working again, but the other window would stop working. Maybe this is something you can try to reproduce the issue
Don’t we have a fix on this yet?? This has been going on FOR YEARS ALREADY!! This is so frustrating!!

This happens to me soooo many times, multiple times a day, on 2 laptops. so frustrating. enabling/disabling the Pinch-to-Zoom option from preferences is so tedious and annoying. 🫣
It might be Mac issue, but when my figma screen freezes, rest pinch to scale is working on other screens as well {like browser}, also when I leave the figma screen for few minute, pinching starts working. I have been facing this issue when I shifted from Macbook Pro M1 to Macbook Pro Intel 2020, Ventura.
May be because of too long running of app in background or too many browser tabs are open, may be an issue. Also when I use Figma Mirror on browser then I am able to see this issue more frequent.

Thanks everyone for the additional information. When pinch is not working, does panning or moving around work? We’ve generally received reports of specifically pinch to zoom not working, but some of the recent reports here sound like the tab just might not be interactive for a few seconds.

Hi, this is a regular issue for me too. Works fine when using mac mouse, but on trackpad pinch to zoom stops working whenever switching to another app and back into Figma.

This has been frustrating for very long…
Responding to @John_L : Panning still works, and zooming with keyboard commands works even when pinch is not working.
For me the pinch seems to come back after waiting for a few minutes, but usually don’t have that patience so I just restart the whole app.

I get this every day, 3 maybe 4 times a day. I’ll be in the middle of doing something and the pinch zoom won’t work. I have to quit the program and even then it doesn’t work. It’s really frustrating!!! Please fix.
This happens to me constantly—twice already this morning. The turning trackpad off/on preferences is a nice tip, but it’s not a fix.
I have been dealing with this issue for a while now, can we please get a fix @Figma_Support ?

When this happens, is it happening on the desktop app or in the browser? If it is the desktop app, does it also happen for Figma in the browser?
We’ve filed a bug with Apple, and they are asking for a ‘sysdiagnose’ when this is occurring to troubleshoot further. This is a pretty big ask, but if you are willing, running ‘sudo sysdiagnose’ in a terminal will generate a large dump that we can then share with Apple.
