Main Component missing, no option to "restore" or "go to"

Have a number of ‘orphan’ instances that seem to have no main component.
No option to “go to main component”.
No option to “restore main component”.

The only other post I found that’s similar was solved by using the 'right-click/Main Component/go to main component" feature but that is not in my menu options for this handful of components only.

Unfortunately breaking and recreating them would cause some chaos in a number of other files.

Is this a bug?

Could you please confirm if you have edit access to the library where the main component is located? You will need access to that library in order to navigate to the main component.

If you have access but still cannot access the main component, I recommend reaching out to our support team directly for assistance. You can contact them here: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
When reaching out, please provide the following details:

  • Use your Figma account email address
  • Include the URLs of the design file and library file
  • Add support-share@figma.com as an editor on these files (this will not impact your billing)
  • Attach a screenshot of an instance with the issue, including the full Figma screen with the left and right-hand panels visible

This will allow our support team to investigate the issue more closely to assist you.

I don’t know if I have access to the library where the main component is because I don’t know where it is. Sounds like I should contact the support team?

If you’re having trouble finding the “Go to main component” option, it could be because you don’t have permission to edit that library file.
Before reaching out to our support team, we recommend checking with your colleagues to see if you can request access to that library.

I had a similar problem - several instances where nothing happened when trying to go to the ‘master component’. It turned out that there was another orphaned instance of this ‘missing’ component that I was unaware of. I found this by using CTRL-F on the layers panel and filtering for instances by name. Once I found this instance, I was able to ‘Restore main component’. I think this occurred because I removed a variant in the original component and the instance that was ‘lost’ used the deleted variant.
