Problem: There’s no way to move a file to a new sidebar section while viewing that file. Solution proposed: Some way to modify or add a section when selecting from list in “Add to sidebar” My Related Goal: Associate some open tabs together for later review, but close them right now.
It would be great if we could comment on the initial marking “Ready for dev”. In our case, we are writing about what epic these changes are connected with. So, if we modify some screens, it’s OK; we can comment on them, but if the changes also include new screens/frames/modals/elements, we cannot do that. To work around I have to mark the new frame as Ready for dev, then copy its elements and use “Paste to replace” to indicate changes allowing me to add a desired comment. Using branches sometimes creates a too complex process. Branches work great if there are multiple complex features conducted on the same file. Especially if they are made by multiple designers. For multiple quick adjustments not really.
It would be great to be able to create more complex mind maps where branches could get merged. I’m running into this issue as I’m designing a mind map to show the relationship between some of our services
The new command for hyperlink doesn’t seem to be working. When it was before cmd-k, now it seems to be cmd shift U - which is very unintuitive (and also not working?) If you’re going to change, why not follow at least patterns from other apps like slack (cmd-shift-v)?
It would be great to have an optional or global toggle associated with Annotations in Dev Mode. Problem: when you copy a frame or section with annotations, they automatically carry over as well. This can be handy for global callouts, but I often find myself having to go back and manually delete all of the annotations I don’t want carried over into the new screen. OR I’m trying to callout different features / properties in this screen than a previous one. Idea: create some type of flag that designers can mark if they want specific annotations to be “sticky” or “global annotations” when copying work
Hi, hope you are doing well. I wanted to let you know something that I’ve been struggling since the new Toolbar interface has been here. My problem specifically resides in the search for the Union Selection option. I was really comfortable when It was just in the top screen. It could be really cool to make a customizable toolbar at this point. Greetings!
When creating a new file, 90% of the time it is a Figma Design, 9.999% is a FigJam Board and 0.001% it’s an import. Either way, I always have to perform two clicks for these important actions. I would suggest extracting the two most used actions (probably Design and FigJam) as colored buttons and hiding the rest in a dropdown:
The “All Notifications” window shown in the Home tab is a great place to get an overview of the last comments added to my files. To make it even more useful, it would be great to also see in it (either immediately or upon hover) the state of the comment, so I can quickly see it was already “Marked as resolved” without having to open the file. Optionally it would also be good to see when and by whom was it marked as such.
When creating new variables that reference other variables, it’s incredibly difficult to determine which variable is the one I should be using. For example: I have size/{1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9} variables that end up being used to set things like the width/height of buttons in form fields. When creating a field/accessory/size variable that references a size variable, there’s no way to determine which step in the scale is appropriate. My suggestion is to provide the current value of a variable on the right-hand side of the list item in the variable dropdown:joeysharesthings.com
Figma introduced a useful feature that allows searching by type, author, or direction. It would be even better if you added tags, enabling us to search by tags as well. For instance, a large product company may have several different products, each with its own concepts and prototypes. We gather all concepts within a single project due to the sheer volume. Tags would help us filter them more efficiently.
I wish there was a little bit more space for the feature I use all the time - changing stroke width. Because variables are taking it all and I misclick all the time, because it only shows up when I click on it.
When creating a lot of stickies, I don’t always want to create an arrow tying them together. That is the default and I constantly have to delete it, which slows me down. Additionally, when creating an arrow from scratch, I am not able to really use it randomly, it must be tied to a point. Which doesn’t always help.
Its hard to move quickly in FigJam without the right keyboard controls. Specifically: When i double click on the grid, you should put a sticky. Any sticky, any size. When I press TAB on a focused sticky, it should create a new one right next to it
Hello I would love that one component interaction can impact another component Example : i’m working for a video communication tool. I would like that when i mute microphone, it changes variant of the stream to indicate that microphone is muted I have two components : Stream and ToggleMicrophone. If i have microphone in state muted i would like that stream has muted indicator state
I think figma should make their app more customizable, like VSCode, for a more personalized experience for designers. I mean, I want to feel like i’m in the Death Star or the USS Enterprise when designing products. I think It’d be massive. DROP A VOTE IF YOU AGREE!
Currently you can change component properties of every instance when selecting several instanced components, which is extremely useful in many situations. Unfortunately, this functionality does not extend to exposed properties from subcomponents. Enabling us to edit these properties as well would be very helpful. Thanks!
String variables are all fine and well. You can’t use them as input to components, which makes them somewhat unusable, but they’d be all fine and well if you could. The existence of strings, however, does leave you wanting more interesting data structures to use while designing. On that note (provided that the abovementioned component-input-issue is resolved) I’d like to have the option to use json in my designs - this would make it much easier to prototype using realistic data while also providing an opportunity for generating sample input data to stress-test your design (the latter probably coming from plugins). For example, I would like to use the following “projectData” json as a component input to a “projectView” component: { “projectName”: “MyProject”, “projectCreationDate”: { “year”: “2024”, }, } In this view, any text field named “projectCreationDate.year” would resolve to 2024, any text field named “projectName” would resolve to “MyProject”. I’m sure there are more clever ways
This is a simple thing that should existed long before they released Figma, right?
We badly need this feature in Figma. The time tracking feature allows designers to keep track of how much time they spend on each design project. For all product designers, it is incredibly helpful. Investors will occasionally demand to know how much time was spent on their project. That’s why we need this feature in Figma.
I would like to be able to search for a colleague and jump into the board they are currently looking at. There are many situations in which I am in a call with colleagues, and they want me to follow them. It always takes some time to find the correct board they are currently in. We tend to tag each other in comments or share links to the board, this however is disruptive to a presentation or meeting. I would prefer to be able to easily find a colleague regardless of what board they are in and to also be able to follow them across boards.
During the user tests it’s important to show scrollable areas in the prototype. Specially for desktop prototypes. This should be a default behavior.
I have 12 pages in one file, but I can only see a maximum of 5 in the menu viewport. Anyone accessing my FigJam document would have trouble understanding the structure, especially since the pages list collapses every time I close the file. I’d prefer an experience similar to Figma, where my pages are always visible. To help mitigate this, I’ve added an intro page that shows the list of all pages.
“When I’m browsing community resources in an infinite scroll format and click on a specific resource to view its details, can I be returned to the same spot I left off at, instead of going back to the top of the page?”
We maintain a single design file for a feature and iterate within it. It would be helpful if once a design is complete, we could lock the frames, or instances of components, within the frames so they no longer receive component updates. Being able to reference previous versions of a design is critical for us, and the way libraries work right now breaks this. (edited to be more clear - locking instances of components)
Our design system file is view-only for basically all users. We have typography styles for desktop and mobile, which are defined in variable modes. But as a view-only user, it’s not possible to see whether text is using the desktop or mobile variable mode. A user should be able to see which variable mode is active even in view-only. Even nicer, a user should be able to view the variables and modes in view-only.
