Let us know what would make Figma better for you.

1. Describe the problem your experiencing and how your idea helps solve this I’ve created decorative patterns with nested components and auto-layout to produce the repeating and spacing and it causes terrible performance issues which is understandable given their complexity and scale. I’ve attempted to remedy this by flattening the output as large vector shapes thinking this would to reduce the computational needs to render them with auto-layout. Unfortunately, this hasn’t helped all that much. In any file that uses these large vector shapes I find that as soon as I select a page that contains it Figma freezes up and panning around the document is very difficult (pretty much unusable with auto layout). I’m aware I can produce a similar effect using and image fill with tiling on any shape or frame but this is limited to using raster graphics as the source. Aside from the fixed resolution of raster graphics, not having the ability to set different fill colors to my patterns is another do
When CSS is displayed in px, letter-spacing will also be in px. For example: font-size:16px; letter-spacing:0.8px; Can this be done like line-height? letter-spacing:0.8px; /* 0.05em */
In dev mode, we can see “Created {time} ago”, and a button to see what changed, who changed it. But we can only know who created it if it is modified at least once. In other words, if it is created & finished within a same day, we cannot know who created it. Especially in a file where multiple editors collaborate together. I think Figma should have a text somewhere telling “Created by” near that timestamp in Dev Mode or somewhere in viewer’s Properties panel.
The position of right sidebar elements changes based on what you’re editing (components have different variables) and it’s really frustrating. I want my regular actions (width, height, X pos, Y pos, border radius, etc.) to constantly be in the exact same place. In this redesign, y’all move component variables up to the top of the right sidebar. But the # of components is totally variable, sometimes I’m editing an object that has no variables. This pushes the regular modifications (size, position, etc) down to random places along the right side. It slows me down GREATLY trying to scan down the right side for where to find the width/height/border radius now. The things I interact with 100x a day should be in the same place always… so that muscle memory can access them with ~0 cognitive load.
FRUSTRATED with the new way to handle auto layout, more clicks required to get what I need. Gone back to old UI. When enabled I expect elements to act as they would in a flex container. When using flex in code, elements don’t magically have a fixed width when you put them in a container. Adding a fixed width to something is actually a pretty rare practice. So don’t set the default to fixed. Apleeeaaasee! Would be nice to be able to configure my own preference here. E.g always set children to fill in rows.
Branching is awesome, but restricting it to org-only teams is not. Experimentation and versioning are essential, table-stakes practices in product design, no matter the number of designers on a team. Figma has always been focused on making great design accessible to and inclusive of all, but this pricing strategy is exclusionary in nature. Even if there are restrictions for number of branches, branching should be available to non-org teams. Please fix.
The newly-introduced (as of today Jan 5, 2022) Comments features seem to have dropped ID number from each Comment. Please bring it back. When collaborating in real-time over Zoom w multiple designers/developers/product folks (multiple times a day!) this now makes it very difficult to describe WHICH comment the team should be focused on. Before today’s change, the leader of the disussion would simply tell everyone that she’s talking about Comment #25 (for example). Now there’s a new layer of complication in getting people to understand which Comment you’re actually talking about, since they no longer have unique numbers.
To review which libraries are outdated, it would be handy to see the last published date of libraries in the admin resources table. Currently you need to review each library details to see the date.
Allow to increase structure bar width in Variables. When you have a complicated structure finally you need to shorten the words to fit them. It takes a lot of time to find a variable in the structure when you need to change it. Sometimes you just not able to do it and need to guess, because the full variable address doesn’t fit in the available space. It would be cool to have some quick link, that opens Variables in this place for quick editing. When quickly viewing variable link status, it always feels like there is a problem with the variable. I guess the problem is this stroke you guys added to the icon. In the old UI it was more different and this confusion never appeared. The similar problem as in #3 i have now with icons “Apply variable” and “Hide”. In the old UI they were more different and there was no confusion, now i everytime click on “Hide” when i want to apply variable. Sometimes i even rush quit form new UI, because it just slowed me down.
I want to reference a screen from one project in another project for flow purposes. But I don’t want it to be editable and I want it to stay updated if that screen has any changes. I also want it to be clear that it’s a “screen link” and just in that project for flow purposes. Currently the designer has to manually copy and paste a screen from one project to another, it’s not clear that it’s just a reference screen from another project and it will eventually be out dated if/when that screen gets design updates. Screen Links will allow for better organization but most importantly a clear source of truth.
If I multi-select one item into a component set I should be able to set the dimensions (Fixed, Hug, Fill, Add min, Add max, apply variable) in all the items. Right now if you multi-select one item used into different components you only have the option to set a variable
Hi, I am wondering if you could handle this repetitive work: When I’ve got an overlay with many states, I connect these states with “Swap overlay” but the persisting default is “Navigate to” so I have to change it every time I create a new link. Would it be possible to detect if both view are overlays and auto-set “Swap overlay” as default. I imagine it would auto select for a case when both views already have an in/out “swap overlay” or incoming “open overlay” link.
It would be really nice if I could manually change the width of the name column within the local variable settings. We sometimes use names that are quite long, and I now cannot read the entire variable name because it’s automatically shortened. Allowing me to adjust the width of that column would solve the problem.
Plugins can’t be moved more up. Seems like it stops where the old navigation menu on the top used to be. Plugins, like Iconify or Photopea are not resizeable either. So while using them, I can’t access the bottom menu a lot of times. It would be a bit better if I could move them more up to show the bottom menu.
is there a way to always turn off?
We’ve found it useful to have a designer record a walkthrough of a design for a distributed crowd. The audience gets the benefit of commentary with the advantages of async collaboration. Reviewers can watch on their own time, which is particularly handy if they were on PTO. Video can be paused to take a closer look and make comments. Rewind We use screencapture software to do this, resulting in an often low resolution view of the design. And reviewers have to switch back and forth between the video and the design file to make comments, not to mention having to manually follow the designer through the file. Request I would be amazing if the designer could record an audio walkthrough, synced such that it follows the designer’s cursor through the file. A seamless integration would be much lower effort for the designer. The design would be experience in full visual fidelity. The walkthrough would require less bandwidth than a video. The audience would need play controls at the top to al
the problem i need as much real state as possible to view the designs and screens am working in a readable viewable way, if the makes sense. to come around this, i currently scroll around and zoom in and out, or hide and show the panels, most probably its a mix of both. either way it’s a annoying… or i need to buy another real big monitor, but i already have a 15" macbook pro, which is great and enough when i hide the panels. this might be a big problem for laptop users without a secondary big screen, or who are portable and don’t have a dedicated work space. this is specially evident when they need to widen the left panel in order to view and read the layers tree. (which is another issue maybe raised in another topic) suggestion make side panels modular (photoshop/illustrator kind of thing). assets, layers on the left panels can be separable and can be undocked and moved elsewhere separately. design, prototype, inspection on the right panel are also separable and can be undocked and m
Currently, project thumbnails call for a ~5:3 ratio → 1920 x 1152 in order to not be cropped. This seems arbitrary. With the advent of Figma Slides, now seems a good a time as any to make the standard into a traditional presentation ratio (1920 x 1080).
Hey there! As a design teacher I often need to use parts of the Figma interface in my slides to explain certain Figma’s features. It would be handy to have a new community template file where to pick up icons and parts of the new Figma interface in order to make these educational contents. The only official file is the UI2 UI Kit and it’s also pretty dated back to years ago.
It would be nice to have a bit different truncation for case where text doesn’t fit the area, but the ending is important.
Something about the old UI made it easier for me to understand that layers and pages were two sup panes. I think it was the fact that pages were indented a bit. It helped easily distinguish the pages and layers section of the left pane. Now with UI3 I find myself not being able to find where pages end and layers begin as easily. I need some sort of visual anchor here. My eye used to follow the negative space to the left of page names all the way down until I hit the layers area and now I feel like I’m going cross-eyed trying to find where my layers start and pages end.
I believe for many UI designers starting out, finding tools are quite difficult. For example when I started out as a designer I did not know the kinsd of objects or shapes that will enable the constraints function. I think it will be a great idea to search tools, effects, etc. and directing users on how they can find whatever they are trying to find. I find even designers of more than 3 years have issues with the arrangement of the new UI and end up reverting back to the old UI. I believe the search feature will make this easier for them. Thank you for the platform to air my views.
Review Library, Present and Share should be next to each other, since when you run Present and verify your prototype is very common case you decide to Publish, get new Library Uploads, or Share a link.
Hi everyone. I came across a very strange logic in Position, Auto layout and Appearance sections of right panel. Maybe the names are random but width and hight belong together with corner radius. Transparency and corner radius together? Really? Wander how are they related. Although sizes and corner radius not really relate to the position section it was more understandable. And I would like to complain about all those three sections below component section, because of it it always jumps and might be even hidden if component is to complex. My ideas might be not good enough but you definitely need to rework the panel. Thanks
Would be nice to have a place to see all the branches that you have pending to review. Like in GitHub. https://github.com/pulls/review-requested We solved this problem making a hack using Figma API, but would be nice if this feature is in Figma 🙂github.com/Telefonica/mistica-design
