Can't create text property on text layer in a component

In the past, I would create a component, and then could select the individual text layers to add text properties to them. As of yesterday, when I create a component, I can only apply text properties by creating them on the component, and then selecting the text layer and applying the property. This is a lot slower than my previous workflow.

Is this a bug? Is this intended functionality as part of an update? Is the ability to create text properties directly on text layers still there and I’m just missing it?

Thanks for your help!

Hey there! Niko from Figma here.

Sorry for the confusion. The component property workflows now follow the variables workflows; You can create a new property by clicking on the plus button when picking a variable or property for the text content.

Hope that helps!

I agree with this 😰
So for existing old components done before the update rolled out/published component, looks like you need to re-create the text ,then apply the text property. Else, figma doesnt know what to do with the text This took a lot time compared to the old ux. Oof.

I had this same issue this morning. It turns out this actually does function similarly to how it did in the past (as far as i remember), but the button to add a text property is near the top of the right-side design options panel, AND it is hidden until hovered on (I really do not like this recurring design language of hiding things until hovering over them). Just leaving my feedback here.

That’s So frustrating, I’ve spent almost an hour on this. Thanks to you I found it.

The problem with this is that you won’t find the property when you duplicate the component and that’s just frustrating. This should be fixed!
