Restrict copying and sharing on files

Hoang_Nguyen1

Have a question about using Figma?
Can i restrict copying and sharing on files with Education Plan?

Best answer by dvaliao

Hey All, sorry for the lack of updates!

To summarize the issue, the option to restrict copying should work as expected, but the option to copy to drafts will not  be disabled. (This is what our team still needs to build into the current feature, and right now, no progress has been made but it’s still on the team’s radar).

Please rest-assured that even though users will still see an option to “Duplicate to your drafts”, if you have unchecked the Advanced share setting, anyone who attempts to do so will get an error and will not be able to copy to drafts.

Hey there, thanks for reaching out!

Since Educational teams are essentially Professional plans, you should have access to this feature. More info here:

Figma Learn - Help Center

I tried and it didn’t work, maybe that’s a bug?!

Hey @B_ng_Le_Kh_i, sorry to hear that!

Which Figma plan are you using?

Keep in mind, that you can only restrict copying and sharing on files for collaborators with can view access to the file only.

Hey,
I’m using the educational plan ( looks like professional plan features ), but “Restrict copying and sharing on files” isn’t working at all, I tested it with 2 different accounts several times to restrict editing and save to local from my shared link ( view only checked ), but unfortunately, I can’t find this most important feature usable, this lack of usability makes Figma untrustable for designers.

Hello @dvaliao, my plan is Education plan as well as Professional plan, I tried exacly like @Milad_Tahajody and it didn’t work too.

Hey All, thanks for following up and sorry for the trouble!

The feature was recently moved to Advanced settings, which may have caused some confusion. Again, this can only be applied for users with can view access. To prevent copying, sharing, and exporting of your file, be sure that the setting is not checked.

Here’s what your Advanced settings should look like:

Hello @dvaliao @B_ng_Le_Kh_i
Thanks for feedback,
But, as I said before I tested this method several times with different accounts ( share settings > advanced > Unchecked viewers can copy, share, and export from this file > then Save ) and it’s not working at all, there is no restriction applied to prevent viewers from coping, sharing and exporting our files!
This extremely violates the trustiness, safety, and intellectual property!

Thanks for the additional context, @Milad_Tahajody!

I’ve filed a bug report to have the team investigate.

Hey @tyq0808, thanks for flagging this to us!

This seems to be related to a bug we recently discovered. May I ask what plan are you using? Is this happening for you and others on your team?

tyq0808

I use the educational version and I found this problem when I wanted to share the lesson plan with my students. No other members have tested it yet.

I can create a test link for you to take a look:https://www.figma.com/design/Fqzp5mftLPhc6NRaUPluYG/Untitled?node-id=0-1&t=O4yhzKi5NRdZEAoa-1

Thanks, @tyq0808!

This is definitely related to the bug we’ve recently flagged. We’ll pass this onto the team to continue to investigate and work toward a fix.

I also have permissions from the Education Edition team. Previously, my files were effectively restricted from being copied and exported by viewers. However, recently I discovered that viewers who were originally prohibited can now export and save the files locally. This has caused me losses. If this is a bug, please fix it as soon as possible. If your product intentionally removed the restriction on copying and exporting in the Education Edition, this is truly troubling.

It became difficult to copy designs, and duplicating was not possible, leading to design delays. I am now looking for an alternative solution to this problem.
