I am using Chrome (flatpak) running on Fedora 40 Linux, but the usual ALT-mouse-drag on a selected layer does not duplicate. This was working when I was on MS Edge running on Fedora 38 Linux.

Hello there, I am using Figma Professional plan for almost 3 years and built a strong design system to use across projects. Now, one of my colleagues raised this subject to define design local variables. I read about the local variables and still don’t get the point of it while we use a rich design system and changing a component and or a property, it changes across all projects, why we should use local ones?

I created first component which has variants for animation. I have created second component which also has variants for different animation. Both these components are working independently. But I want second animation to run only after completion of first animation i.e. first component should be linked to second component. How do I do this?

I’m designing an avatar component that needs to be responsive to varying text lengths. The component includes: An avatar image, Job site, User’s assigned role, An icon button for a dropdown menu. I want the component to: Resize based on text length, with a minimum and maximum width. Truncate text once the maximum width is reached, but hug the text until then. Currently, I’ve set up Auto Layout for responsive resizing and am using “Hug contents” for initial flexibility. I’m experimenting with a nested frame to enforce the max-width and have applied truncation to the text, but I’d love insights from anyone who’s successfully implemented similar constraints in their designs. Any tips or recommendations for better handling this setup? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Why can color styles and effects only use color variables? When I define opacity as a variable as well, I can’t combine them. It’s frustrating to create many color styles and variables. I could combine them as a component, but then I can’t apply them to text. The only workaround is using text as a mask, but that feels like a silly approach.

I’ll let you, Figma, figure out the solution to this, but the problem is new, and it’s excruciating.

Hi, I’m a front-end developer (mainly - js/ts) and I was tasked to learn how a design realm can be connected with the development realm. How a design system can be build. The problem I stumbled upon almost immediately was the inability to parameterize designs. Let me explain. Figma has variables, that’s cool. Now how to instantiate them? I didn’t find a way except for manually typing them in. Let’s talk about colors. Imagine you’re given a brand style with 3 base colors plus one reddish for errors. Each has 10 shades so we get 40 variables that we have to enter manually. But they don’t include the state colors, like hovers. So we go and add another set of variables for state layers. How many their number can reach? Material Theme Builder for example generates more than 1000 styles. No one can enter all of them manually. No one gonna really use all of them. I have shared the design link with the viewer permissions for the development, and I have set the development to full seats in the member management. However, in this case, the development cannot be downloaded. Image, download button is locked, how to solve this situation? If I enable editor permissions for developers, they can download cutouts, but I don’t want to enable editor permissions.

Hi, I’m preparing for my first remote usability testing session with a web-based prototype, and I have a concern. I want to make sure the hotspots are hidden when I present the prototype to participants. If they remain visible, it could lead to misleading insights. I have a prototype of a website with a few frames of 900x1090. I zoom in to see the page at full width in a small monitor but now I can’t reach the bottom of the page, I scroll but stops before the end. If I zoom out I see the entire page again, then zoom in the bottom but then I can’t reach the top, this happens with every page in the same prototype. I’m using Figma on browser Brave on Macbook.

There is a user flow of the app screen page present in the Figma file and in that same file there is Design System page which have foundation and important component this was done by earlier designer who was working on this file now I want to transfer the user flow page to the new Figma file how can I do this please anybody help 😪

scroll bar related animation works well in its individual frame, but it doesn’t work well when that frame is added in a nested frame…is there something im missing or doing something wrong.

Hi, @community_support Urgent! I changed my e-mail in my Figma account about 14 days ago, which worked without any problems. Now there was an urgent update of my plugin and the release of a new plugin. When I tried to publish it, I got the message Fix errors before publishing We detected a change to your account details. Please contact support@figma.com to publish this plugin Which I did a few days ago. After various queries about my person and what I have done in Figma, unfortunately there is no reply. Since 2 days there is no answer at all,… What do I have to do to put a new version of the plugin on Figma again?

What I mean is, I create frames, blah blah and then, instead of linking them here and now, is there a way to somehow create a synced copy/mirror of those frames in some other place so if you create connections, it uses objects from the design but on this copy - mirror? And it would update live, of course if you remove an object, the connection goes away. One idea is to create a component out of the whole frame and just instance it… but I feel this is not the right way. Has anyone ever thought about his too?

Hi everyone, I’m working on a scroll triggered animation for a landing page, where the frame (containing video) in the hero section increases in size and takes up entire space when the scroll bar is dragged. While i was practicing this animation it worked, but when i added this ‘hero section’ frame in my main ‘landing page’ frame and then checked in prototyping mode, the scroll bar does not respond. Can anyone help with this ? Thanks! Dilyse.

Hi everyone ! I hope everybody’s well. Here’s my subject : i’m working on a “bento design” and i have an issue with my prototype : when i play it for the first time, the navigation keep resizing the screen in the top left corner before getting back to normal (which make the experience nauseous and feeling bugged). BUT once he did this little glitch everything works fine. to give you a bit more info, i’m using a component and 2 interactions in this order : Change to > changing the dot Navigate to > to change the content of screen And the 1st frame inside the main ones : are always named the same are in fill with a min and max width i used exactly the same method for the menu and it’s working just fine I tried to change the order but it doesn’t help and it just delete my dot animation… Anyone already had this problem ? Good afternoon. I can’t access the desktop version. It sends me to the site, but there are no my settings there. I reinstalled - doesn’t help, logged out of my account and logged back in - doesn’t help ((Can you tell me what my problem is?

I noticed when i use the outline stroke option to a text it’s not the same as before where the text is editable and the outlined stroke of the text is also editable but in another layer.

I downloaded code snippet editor and wrote the code snippet for component set. It did propagate correctly to the component instances in the same project, however when I open a component instance in another project, it says no snippet available. My design system project is published and shared with other projects.

Is there going to be a company update on variables any time soon, we are desperately lacking some ux features and improvements? (its still feels like its beta) I keep checking release notes daily for any sign of quality of life improvement in this area (does anyone else feel like this whole area is being ignored?). I see new products coming online like code connect & slides etc, meanwhile I think there are a lot of medium sized orgs with designers in the trenches that probably wont take advantage of these things but could definitely take advantage of some variables QOL improvements. Rant over
