I’m encountering some issues with Figma; regardless of whether the file has many pages or few, the operations are very laggy. I’ve tried changing my network and using a VPN, but neither has made a significant difference. What should I try now?
I have same issue like yours. My Mac’s fan is getting so loud when I used the new Figma app. Frustrated.
I don’t even have the new UI yet, but the performance issues occur like never before. I experienced it in the files I’ve been working on for over a year and there were no major changes to them recently. Now the file loading time exceeds 7 minutes, while the MacBook fans go crazy.
It happens on both the desktop and the web browser apps. I tried reinstalling and clearing the cache but with no luck. I rely heavily on variables and nested components if that matters. Unfortunately, I can’t share the exact files. Maybe I’ll try somehow to replicate the issue and share the file afterwards.
Experiencing the same issue since I switched to the new UI, the app performance is atrocious it’s incredibly frustrating!
I am running it on a Mac M1 which was always super fast on the previous UI…
Is there any update to that issue?
If you have complicated svg files with lots of tiny details in them, keep your zoom levels increments to 25, 50, 100, 200%. If the zoom is somewhere around these increments, the cpu usage tends to go crazy.
Experiencing the same issue. It takes ages to just open a page after the update. Please solve the issue
I got the new update just a day ago and now Figma is really slow, to the point that it’s not usable. The cursor is laggy and every selection or action I try to make is delayed a second. It feels incredibly unresponsive unfortunately. Since we’re still in beta I hope future updates will solve this. I’ve had this problem in the desktop app but I’ll try the web version instead to see if it works better. I’m running on a 2020 MacBook Pro so it isn’t exactly a modern powerhouse, but I didn’t have issues like this previously.
MacBook Pro 2017
NewUI funs fan to max. Classic UI runs the same file smoothly.
Things were like that when the new UI was just released. So, there haven’t been any updates since then. That’s weird.
I’m having the same issue since switching to the new UI. I’m using Figma in a browser. It’s happening with both old files and new, big and small.
I have tried restarting my browser. I’ve tried clearing my cache (multiple times). I’ve trying logging out and back in again (multiple times). I’m using Brave on a MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.6.1. When I clear my cache it helps for maybe a few minutes.
Similarly I love using nested frames with auto layouts so I really hope that’s not the issue.
Next I’ll try Safari and Firefox to see if either of those is any better. If not, I guess I’ll have to switch back to the old UI.
I am suddenly having the same issue without even having the new UI. A page can take up to 30 seconds to load in the browser. Same page that used to open instantly a month ago (It was even larger). The Figma desktop app exactly the same issue.
Just out of curiosity, are you also a heavy user of nested components?
Yes. But the interesting is that this file was created about 3 months ago and it was loading fine until 3-4 weeks ago. Then one day things started going downhill. This issue is much more problematic in Chrome I should say. I have tried any proposed solutions on the internet. Nothing worked. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome and Figma desktop app.
Hi everyone! I have lags when selecting and moving objects, as if it becomes 5 fps. How can I solve this problem? I’m on the old ui
The Redesigned UI is making me work slow. and the right panel looks too complicated to work with, the borders on each action components are making the Ui feels way to heavy. The older one is preferred since its lighter. and more readable. the New Icons for action buttons are confusing as hell.
That sounds quite relatable. I’m also a heavy user of nested components and have the same issue. My design system file was fine a few weeks ago but became unworkable at some point without too many additions or changes to the file. I have to admit I have the same issue when switching back to the old UI. Performance is slightly better, but nothing too groundbreaking, unfortunately.
Just want to add that I too am now facing a very slow and laggy Figma since the recent update. I have heavy nested components, but my file is broke into many pages with Memory never really above 10-15%. Flicking through pages is fine, but little things like reorganizing icons to creating design mock ups, Figma hates it - it even halts so much that the connectivity drops and it struggles to stay synced to the cloud at times, which I’ve never come across in over 3 years of use.
Hi there,
Could you try the troubleshooting below?
- Close any Figma tabs you’re not using
- Browser : Force-quit and open Figma in a new browser window.
- Desktop App: Force-quit the Figma Desktop app and restart it. If the issue persists, try clearing the cache.
If the issue still continues, could you subm
it a bug report detailing the steps that led to this issue? You can do so by following the link: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041468234-Submit-a-bug-report

I join the discussion. Figma has become laggy, that’s a fact. Lags both on mac and pc. The hardware does not matter, because Figma still does not eat up resources much. But it has become impossible to work in projects, no matter what the scale of the project, even the smallest still lags. Cache cleaned tried, does not help, return the old interface also tried, also does not help.
The funny thing is that Figma works better in the browser than in the application. On mac the difference is not significant, although just for the record version in chrome works the same as the application, in safari the speed drops.
But on PC, the difference is significant (and this is taking into account that the hardware in my PC is much more powerful than on the mac) in chrome on PC fps significantly more than in the application. I didn’t pay attention to the exact moment when it all happened, but the last project I did for a week had freezes.
It became uncomfortable to work, before Figma was the epitome of speed, now it’s the opposite.
We’ve tried all the guides and tips that Figma has put out on the topic. This isn’t a local caching or hardware issue at this point. It’s just gotten SLOW. It’s made us wonder if Figma is just in need of some good code hardening or if they’re divesting in server resources to cut costs.
“Figma was the epitome of speed, now it’s the opposite.”
I couldn’t agree more. Unsure why a 2d vector application can’t keep up. Our product design files have no images and straightforward efficient component, but we’re nearly paralyzed most days in our working sessions.
Chiming in here to say that the new update has made the lag unbearable – upwards of 500ms or higher just to move the mouse around on a simple, one page file with one tab open. Now everything takes five times longer to do. Thanks guys. Great update.
I also tried all the tips provided in this topic - nothing helps, Figma remains slow after the update. I’m using Windows and the desktop application. I also experienced that Figma in the browser is indeed faster.
I have had the same issue since installing the update. Right after switching back the the previous UI, my render speed was 100% fixed and the desktop app is working perfectly.
Hi all, we aren’t able to repro this, so f the issue still continues, could you submit a bug report detailing the steps that led to this issue? You can do so by following the link:

Same here, after update so slow, especially when updating libraries. I will try to switch to old UI and see what happens …
I’m also dealing with this. Super slow and laggy. I put in a bug report.
