This is deeply frustrating, our design has ground to a halt because we are all virtual and trying to communicate in different parts of a large project has become a nightmare. @figma what is going on?

Bryan_Hewitt

Please see comments on this thread @Josh , alot of us are still having this issue. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Louis_Ingelaere

Here’s what fixed it for me:

  • Create a new team
  • Add the people you want to tag in the comments to the team
  • Add the design file to the team

My issue was that I could only tag people from another team. The design file with the buggy user tagging wasn’t added to any team or so. I never actively joined a team (but maybe I did without knowing). Also note, I was the creator of the design file in which the user tagging was buggy.

Hope this information helps for some of you.

I have been experiencing a similar issue for the past few weeks. I can tag some of my team members on the same project, but not all of them. Very frustrating that I am unable to communicate directly with my lead designer on this project. This is a significant workflow disruption.

Nic_Northwest

This is killing us! We can no longer communicate with our team and is delaying work. What’s the update here @Josh ?

I cannot tag a few people in comments, their names do not appear there. Going into “Share” menu, I can see them there.

Maybe it is a minor bug but happening since start of this week.

Same here! I have been not able to tag other people in the comments for more than one week. Both on desktop and web app. Already updated to the latest version and tried to restart everything.

A temporary solution for you all in this thread - comment without tagging and share out the link of the comment. It works at least.

For me it’s the other way around: I can tag people but our client (guests) can’t tag me. Is this related to the same issue?

Matias_De_Carli

Same here. I’m surprised to see that this has been open for ~4 months, and no official word on this

Audrey_Charneux

I have the same issue. I wrote to them, but haven’t heard back and it’s been a month now.

Mike_Johansen

I just solved why a contractor (guest editor) couldn’t tag me in any comments, we weren’t in any of the same teams. We both had access to an edit file, but until we were added to the same team he couldn’t @ me. What was weird though is I could @ him always… Not sure if this is by design and if it is, it really isn’t clear in the UI what’s going on.

Ashly_Harwood

@Mike_Johansen You are a super ⭐

We have being having the same issue with not being able to tag other users. We all had permission to ‘edit’ but were not apart of a ‘Team’.

By doing the following steps it has allowed us to start tagging again!

  1. Create a new team
  2. Add the users you want to collaborate with
  3. Assign the project to the team.

Hope this helps!

Nick_Ribal

This is an issue I’m currently facing. 😕
Can’t tag a team mate. He can tag me and everyone else on the team can tag him, except for me.

Any chance to prioritize the fix higher in the backlog?

Alex_Galkin

I had the same issue. It appeared that people were invited into project, but not to the team. They were able to view design but were not able to tag other people. Just try to go back to the list of files, select your company at the left side and make sure you are part of the team and other people are part of the team as well. Once you invite people to the team they will be able to tag each other.

piffpaffpuff

thanks for the info, but i think that is not the issue the topic starter and i have. i do not want to invite a collaborator to our team or a project.

based on the Figma documentation, you can mention collaborators, that have only a role on a file:

Team members can also mention collaborators who only have a role on that specific file or project.

and in my case i can definitely not mention collaborators on a file but only team members. so the issue still persists.

Alex_Galkin

Got it. In this case, the issue is definitely there.

I had just the same situation until I added every person to the team.

The original issue is still valid.

Lindsay_Austin

@anon21722796 I’m having the same issues as described above. Viewer-restricted team members with the same @domain can’t at mention another team member, even me as an editor.

Is now 2022 and almost half a year, I am the owner of the project and clients still can’t tag me in Figma to leave their comments. And there is no way to input the email address. If we can’t tag the person to leave comment (which we can do that before) , then it become a shared pdf file. Please fix this asap. Thanks.

vanessa_Kleiman

this is solved by going to your “members” tab
Make sure the users are part of your team
if they are not you need to resend the invitation
see print screen - the users with the “No team - level permissions” can not be added to a comment via the @ function

I work with various clients using Figma. I can’t @-mention someone who’s been invited to the project, unless I also add them to our company Team? Which means we’ll be billed for their seat?

Patryk_Kalista

Hi, I just resolved it in my projects. Try this. Check at share button. My people was changed on can’t view. I changed it to can edit and it works.

Sean_Rainey1

If you add all these people to the new team, do you have to pay for each seat? And can they be restricted to only seeing the prototype?

Laura_Silvani2

Hello there, I had the same issue today, but only with one of the two people that I am sharing the file with, and both are viewers. I just clicked on the Share button, selected the person that I could not tag and changed it to “can view prototypes only”, then back to “can view” and commented mentioning him again. Now it is working for me. Hope this helps!

Michal_Gazit

@Laura_Silvani2 Thanks. what you suggested: "changed it to “can view prototypes only”, then back to “can view” solved the problum and I was struggling with it for a while. thanks!

Amee_Longpre

THANK YOU!! This works!
