Interesting that this long-standing issue hasn’t been solved yet (March 2023).
As other mentioned, switching users to view prototypes only and then back to view should work.
You may need to:
- Do this one by one (changing settings and closing the modal, then the next one)
- Change settings and then restarting the app
I can mention/tag two people in my file but not anyone else. I have tried everything mentioned (except changing them to ‘view prototypes only’ because I don’t even have that option).
A quick Google search reveals this seems to be affecting many people and has been for a while. Does anyone know if figma has acknowledged this issue?
@Josh Do you have any new information on this issue? It looks like it’s been around for a while, and I’m still experiencing it. Thank you.
UPDATE
I was able to get this working the following way.
I asked the person I was trying to @ mention to add a comment and tag me. As soon as he did that, I was able to mention him. I don’t know if it was just the comment alone, or also mentioning me that fixed it, but that worked for me at least.
Any idea why I don’t have this option for view prototypes only? I can confirm my file is in a team/project and not drafts.
I’m running into this issue also, but with only one user. That user has been added to the team as a viewer. I tried moving to “can view prototypes,” as well as having them comment @ me. Still can’t @ them.
yeah same issue here. i’m having the ability to tag a random person who should not have permission to even view the file, but unable to tag a person who’s on the viewer list.
I’m running into this issue as well. I can tag all of my team members except for one. They can access the document and operate as per usual but cannot collaborate on the file directly via comments. Any insight on how to fix this would be appreciated.
also experiencing this. the other user can tag me but i cannot tag them back. they’re a member of the organization and project.
same issue here. Running the latest version on desktop, closed it and reopened it. no luck. @Figma_Support this says it has a solution, but that solution doesnt work.
@Figma_Support my teammates have the same issue with mentioning, when it will be solved?
Hey everyone!
There are some intended restrictions on who’s available to @mention others in comments.
Collaborators that have direct roles on the same resources are able to @mention one another. For example, a collaborator that only has a role on a file can @mention someone who also has a role on the file, but won’t be able to find someone who is on the team but doesn’t have a role on the file.
You can build out a file or project’s contact list by inviting anybody you want mentioned on the file as a direct viewer or editor on it. Here’s our Help Center article that has more details on this: @mention in Comments
Hope that helps! If you’re still unable to @mention, please contact our support team and let them know the email address of the affected collaborator, and share the link to an example file where you’re not able to @mention this collaborator.
@Gayani_S I have an issue with mention also and can’t find the answer, even in the help : my clients have a “can view prototypes" role so that they can’t access the Figma file itself. But with this role, they can’t mention anybody. I have to change their role to “viewer" for them to be able to mention. Is this right ? Why can’t they mention with “can view prototypes” role ??
