Having this exact same issue. It’s mind numbingly frustrating that Figma tells me I don’t have ARIAL installed on my computer and none of the troubleshooting above has helped. SOS
I’m having the same issue on my macbook and I use Chrome
Same issue - Macbook + Chrome
I have fixed up the issue on my end TRY THIS, hope it works for you all.
My Issue:
- In Figma a font is missing (randomly just becomes missing for no reason)
- The missing font can be seen in Font Book (Mac)
Fix:
- Go to the folder ‘~/Library/Fonts’ (Mac) and add the missing font there
Seems like this folder stores specific fonts that Figma check in. Maybe…BUT all that matters is that it works! 🤩
I fixed this, by just going back to my old pal, Adobe XD 😃
This keeps happening to me every couple days. Fonts are installed, all other apps have access to them. Font agent doesn’t help, in my settings it states I have access to local fonts. They just don’t show up or suddenly go missing. This is super frustrating. Both the desktop app and the browser versions are having the same issue. You’ve been getting complaints about it since May 2022, this should be an absolute core feature of a design app. Please fix this asap.
Thanks for the feedback. If you keep seeing the font issue, could you reach out directly to the support team with a copy of your file: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Please make sure you use the email associated with your Figma account, include links to the file in question, and share access with support-share@figma.com. Don’t worry, inviting us to view your file won’t impact your billing.
I think you’ve already tried, but please let me share the common font issue and trouble shooting links.
You’ll see this missing font warning when you need to Manage Missing Fonts.
The most common reasons for missing fonts are:
- Missing installed fonts: collaborators are using a local font, which you don’t have installed.
- Conflicting versions: collaborators are using a different (older or newer) version of the font.
- Missing font styles: Either the style was missing from a download, or you are using a different version of the font which doesn’t include that weight or style.
If you have this font already installed on your computer, you’ll need to either use our Desktop App or follow the instructions to Access local fonts on your computer to use local fonts in the browser.
If you’ve followed these instructions and are using the Desktop App, or seeing the notification that Local Fonts are enabled on your Figma account settings in the browser, then it’s possible that the font you have installed is not the same version as the one used in the File. To resolve this, we suggest you ask the File’s creator to send over the Font version used to create the File. Once you install this version, you’ll need to restart Figma to serve that version.
Alternately, if you want to use the version stored on your computer you can to select the correct weight in the toggle of that Missing Fonts warning menu. Please note this changes the font version for all editors on the File and so can generate the same error for any other editors who have a different version installed.

Toku
Thanks @y_toku . For now, upgrading macOS resolved the issue. I hope it is fixed for good. Thank you for your response and suggestions.
2024 windows 11, still the same problems. Support won’t bother responding even on paid pro Figma version. Client is waiting for the projects. Fix the Figma to recognise fonts installed by shortcuts.
Thanks for flagging. This issue is still in the investigation. Our product team will need more information, so could you reach out directly to the support team with a copy of your file: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?

Just installed here and it recognized my local fonts! Apple silicon M1 MacOs Sonoma!
I’m having the same issue. My font worked a week or so ago, and now it doesn’t show up. I removed and reinstalled the font as well, and rebooted my laptop and Figma multiple times.
System: macOS Sonoma14.4.1
Figma Desktop App version: 116.18.4
Problem: The fonts of the Apple Font book cannot be read by Figma, resulting in the loss of most fonts. Multiple reinstalls of the Figma desktop client and multiple installs of font support failed. The web version of Figma also can’t read local fonts. All other software can read the native font, but Figma can’t
Hey @Weekie – are you seeing the specific ‘Installed by you’ font list empty?
Yes, it’s empty, too. Fortunately, I’ve solved that problem. Hopefully my example will be a solution for everyone. If you download a beta version of Figma, you will find that the beta version of Figma detects local fonts, and if you refresh the official version of Figma, you will find that the official version also detects local fonts. I personally suspect that my Figma version may be missing some files, but the beta version is filling them in.
Thanks @Weekie – just for your (and everyone else who comes across this), I got an update on my end too that there are some investigations on local fonts acting up for Mac users.
If there are any details you’d like to share on what you’re experiencing, would love to hear it. Otherwise, we’ll try to update when we can.
Hi everyone - can you all update your current app (if you haven’t already) and let me know if you’re still having issues?
A post was split to a new topic: Local fonts not appearing
