Is there a way to share ONLY the prototype?

I thought the share link would go only to the prototype, but it gives users access to the whole file. Is there a way to “hide” the rest of the file from curious clients?

Yes, but only with a paid account. In the share panel of a prototype, set permission to “can view prototypes only” and disable “Allow viewers to copy, share and export from this file”.
