We can not edit properties of a Component instance

Matthijs_Rouw

For some reason, the design system component instances cannot be altered.

I created a new project, added a page, gave a colleague edit access and added our design system to it so the components are accessible.

Yet all properties are read only.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi @Junko3 ,

What you described was exactly the case. And in a way, I think the problem solved itself, or I have pushed too many buttons at once and accidentally hit the wrong one.

But my best guess is that the DS wasn't fully loaded or the project wasn't fully stored yet - or something of the likes - as it seemed it just needed some time to have the properties editable.

If so, perhaps it's an idea to have a development team take a look at it.

Cheers,

Matthijs

Hi @Matthijs_Rouw, Thank you for reaching out about this.

I appreciate you sharing the screenshot. Just to confirm, you inserted an instance from a subscribed library into a design file, but the text properties and the variant property of the instance are not adjustable in the file, is that correct?

If so, could you please try the following steps to see if there are any changes?

  1. Open the impacted page file
  2. Open the “Actions” menu from the toolbar.
  3. Search for "Regenerate all instances (slow)" and click to run the command.
  4. Refresh the file.

I hope this helps. If it doesn’t work, I recommend reaching out to our support team through this form. When you submit a form, please include:

  • Your Figma account email
  • The troubleshooting steps you’ve tried
  • A screenshot of the entire Figma screen showing the issue with the problematic instance
  • The URLs of the file and the library of the main component, and please add support-share@figma.com as an editor (this won’t affect your billing).

Thanks again for reaching out and your assistance.
