Advanced Comment Filter Options & Opening Comments Panel in Separate Window

ya’ll I am in the weeds right now. :weary: my fellow designer and i audit each other’s designs to make sure we’ve covered all our bases as looking at your own design for months makes you blind to some things

this means we “@” each other and make comments on any place that is missing a variable, needs a design tweak, or addresses logic concerns.

you know what this also means? 100+ comments in one Figma file across multiple pages wherever we have assets built

problems:

  • i try to resolve comments one at a time in the order that they were commented. this means i open and close the comment panel. once i close it, the scroll resets and i have to scroll all the way down and manually search for the comment i was just on. I can type a keyword - but I’m trying to also resolve the next comment where i’m mentioned.
  • although you can open a comment within a mini window and toggle back and forth through the comments in this window, it automatically closes when you resolve it instead of going to the next comment. also, the filters don’t apply to this mini window and you can’t easily find the comment you want to resolve because it only shows one comment at a time instead of a panel full of comments.
  • i tried to memorize the comment number that I was on to resolve comments faster, but I quickly found that you can’t search for that within the comment panel.
  • the filter option of “just mentions and replies” includes all of my comments as well, even if i’m @ another individual. i just want to be able to see comments where i’m specifically mentioned within the comment.
  • the “sort by date” option automatically sorts from newest to oldest. but in my case, i need the ability to sort from oldest to newest.
  • i’d like to have the comment panel open and preserve my scroll while I also utilize the design panel. sometimes theres multiple comments I need to reference when i’m updating a design and they may not all be in the same place, but because the comment panel shares the same real estate as the design panel, I have to go between one or the other and lose my scroll.

proposed solutions:

  • more filter options/smart search: only when I/another team member is @, oldest to newest, search by comment number
  • ability to move the entire comment panel into its own window that preserves scroll
