Additional Boolean Variables - Seperate visibility of fills/strokes/effects

It would be great to be able to seperate the visibility objects beyond just the layer. To be able to associate a boolean variable to the visibility of;

  • Layer
  • Fill
  • Stroke
  • Effects

Would make it more effective when putting together a design system. This means that you could effectively determine that all buttons have outlines, or drop shadows or both right across the whole design.

See examples below.

Thoughts?

Good idea.

You can do it right away with layers though

Yeah but it’s redundant. It would be way less data, if i give e.g. the button frame a specific border, filling ,radius (and the visibility of the border for example) all connected to variables. so that i only have to configure the stuff on the button frame not sublayers 🙂

All true, indeed. However if you need things done today layers to the rescue. Another thought is that you make button once and move on, not a big deal. If you want to optimize the process you can separate visual layer into reusable style components

The concept explained here → Making of true multi-brand design system | by Pavel Kiselev | UX Collective, check under “Component styles” section
