I’m actually sick to death of fixing accidental edits by developers. Fix this Figma.

Hei Figma, how might I see the list of users that I gave access to as developers, when they requested for “Dev mode”? They are all currently listed as having a Full Design seat. Is this what this is? A full design seat, as in they can edit all of the design files? Please separate these 2 roles as they are not identical.

Please Figma Team! Remove the edit rights from Dev Mode Seats on Professional Plan! That would make this bizarre world of today just a tiny bit better!

I have 4 designers on my team, and there are over 10 Engineers who need access to dev mode but I can’t do this without giving them all full design seats on a Professional plan. I have a limited budget for design tools that this is exceeding by a large margin. Additionally, this allows a level of access that neither the design nor engineering team wants or needs. Not sure why this was approved as the way to enable this for Professional plans. You’re charging per seat anyway, just charge for a Dev. Mode seat.

+1 - Our devs need dev access but do not and SHOULD not get editing access (too easy to make changes by mistake!)

When will this get fixed?

+1 Not only is this killing us as a startup needing to pay for extra edit seats, that the developers don’t need, it also opens up accidental edits that need constant fixing. Need to separate Edit access and Dev Mode access. It makes zero sense to punish the Pro plan mid tier in this way as that tier are no doubt those with the limited budget and in scale mode.

There were so many software updates after this topic past 9 month and Figma still don’t made any changes in this important problem. 🤕

Hi. It’s about half year passed after your post and nothing happens. There were several updates of Figma and no improvement in this question yet! How long we must wait for making separate roles for designers and developers?

Other products may build upon areas where Figma has room to grow, not necessarily due to flaws, but perhaps due to the natural ego that can develop with a large and loyal user base. It’s exciting to see how competition and innovation can push all tools to improve, and with time, we can expect even better solutions for everyone. Monopolies don’t last forever.

This is extremely frustating, we are a small team of designers but a lot of devs, and from 4 seats we had to pay for 12 seats for devs, we just switched to other tools instead of doing this in Figma. sigh beginning of an end 😞

+1 Please remove edit rights for dev only mode. Devs accidentally edit the designs and it’s annoying.

Any updates on this? This is an insanely simple change on our end to make. Unreal.

+1 For this - the company I work for has 2 designers and 4 developers… I have no problem with paying for a dev seat as a full editor seat makes no sense. I don’t want to go through the files and see they accidentally changed things…? This seems very much like intentional friction designed for upsells if you ask me.

There’ll be a Dev Seat for Professional plans (not sure if without edit rights this time).

These changes will take effect starting on March 11, 2025

Please pass this on to the decision makers, in case they’re really that disconnected from the Pro plan customers/audience that they don’t see the importance of it:

We’re a SMB, so we don’t have enterprise-level workload and budget to get the org/enterprise plan. With that said, we’re fine with forking out whatever a full-seat cost for devs to access Dev Mode. But most devs don’t design regularly; they certainly don’t live in Figma on a daily basis. That means with full edit access, they can easily unknowingly mess up the design. One accident can be detrimental to our business.

I like Figma so much and I sincerely hope Figma hasn’t become tone deaf to their customers the way Adobe has.

Is there really not a fix for this? This is either a critical bug or an intention feature but it doesn’t support the design/dev process in any way. Please provide an update and hopefully a solution. No designer or person who has ever worked in design would have ever allowed this.
