Question

The content in the figma file is missing

Doc.

My figma file would automatically delete some content from my design draft, resulting in a large area of content being lost. Even after I retrieved it from the historical files, the content would still continue to be lost. I felt very panicked

Hey Doc., thanks for reaching out. I totally get how stressful that must feel, and I’m here to help!

  • Just to clarify, when you mentioned retrieving the design from "historical files," did you mean the Version History feature in Figma? If so, that’s exactly what it’s there for — to help you recover anything that got accidentally deleted!

Make sure you're using the Version History feature to view and restore a previous version by following these steps:

  1. Open version history in the right sidebar.
  2. Select the version to preview it in the viewport.
  3. In the right sidebar, click  next to the version and select Restore This Version.
  4. Figma will add two autosave checkpoints to the file's version history.
    • A checkpoint that saves the current version up until you clicked Restore This Version. This as an autosaved version with a timestamp that matches the current time.
    • A checkpoint at the same timestamp for the version you just restored.
  5. Click the Edit current version to exit version history.

  • In the meantime, before making further edits, I’d recommend to try duplicating the file to preserve the current state and see if the issue persists. This gives you a safe backup to work from and helps isolate the issue.

  • Still, if the issue keeps happening after restoring, I’d definitely recommend reaching out to our support team so they can investigate the root cause with you directly by filling out this form:  https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Be sure to use your Figma account email, include a link to the file, and share it with support-share@figma.com with can edit access, so we can take a closer look.

Hope this helps!
