There is a bug in the copy link to selection function.
When using the pop up menu and selecting “copy link to selection” it will copy the link to the exact thing that I’ve selected (yay!)
The “copy link to selection” function also has a shortcut key, ⌘L (yay!)
When using the ⌘L shortcut the link copied only points to the frame/section that the selected object is within, not the original selection. This means that the pop up menu option and the shortcut for that menu option will point to two different links (boo!)
Still facing issues with this reported bug of links to selections not working. I’ve tried logging out and restarting, but it persists.
Hey @Deanna_Castellano, sorry to hear this!
Our team pushed a fix for this last Friday.
How are you trying to generate your links to a selection? Are you using the copy to selection keyboard shortcut, copy link to selection through the right-click menu, or copy link when using the Share button?
Hi thank you @dvaliao, before the bug fix, and before the manual work-around I posted. Every single way I tried share a link, “copy link” right-click menu share. It was not grabbing the node-id.
No this did not happen on all files, It seem to be only new files, or files I had merged a branch on, but not 100% on that.
To date. Link Sharing is working 100% like it should and how it did before the bug.
You’re welcome, @Chad_Dunbar!
Thanks for the additional context and glad to hear it’s working again. I’ll pass your feedback onto the team in the case they want to note it for the bug’s retro.
I seem to be having the same issue here. Used to be able to select a layer on my design and create a links straight to it to share with devs but now it takes to the parent frame.
@dvaliao Actually this issue is still happening. Both with the keyboard shortcut and when clicking Share. The parent frame is shared, not the selected frame.
Hey @Erico_Nascimento and @David_N, thanks for following up!
How deeply nested are the layers that you’re trying to link to? Are you able to share your file with us? https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
If so, please include a URL link to the file to the topic thread here, and share edit access with support-share@figma.com.
We’re still experiencing the issue. When sharing a section (keyboard shortcut, right click menu or share button - it’s the same with all of them), the link opens the whole project, instead of that specific section. For privacy reasons we need the rest of the project/board to remain hidden when sharing a section. Is there a fix for this?
I’m still experiencing this issue. No “link to selected frame” option from ‘Share,’ and cmd+L links to the entire parent frame.
I’m seeing a lot of older posts claiming the bug was fixed, but it’s not.
This is still an issue. Does not link the specified frame via Share button, right click, or CTRL + L.
Still having issues with these frame links… I copy a frame link from a page that contains only app views, and when copy pasting it in Jira it shows me a frame link from another page dedicated to Web Desktop views…
I am also experiencing issues with sharing links to selected selections and frames. It always just links to the whole page, not to the selection. This makes sharing very annoying for everyone involved.
This bug exists since months and still no update?
Hey all - I’ve been looking into this myself, but I’m not seeing the same issue. On my end, in both desktop and web version of Figma, I can get the link to share directly to a section and it works as expected.
I’m not entirely sure, but I’m wondering if you’re all having issues with this that involves Atlassian. Can anyone confirm if you’re having this pop up when using Atlassian’s smart links?
This is not only an issue in Atlassian, I have this just clicking on a link that somebody shared a specific section and it worked in the beginning but then not anymore. I believe this has to do when figma writes data to the browser (session or local storage) at one point it does not work anymore. Probably hard bug to fix because it happens only to some people sometimes.
PS: i just checked this by clearing the browser data in the Figma app with the developer console and then logging in again and then clicking on a shared link. that works correctly

Good to know! Can anyone else here try this out to see if it corrects?
