Figma Education Plan Expires Soon

I received an email that says I have two weeks left on the education plan. It briefly states what will happen and what you can do about it. However, I'm still confused. I’m not sure how it'll affect my account and what I can or can't do with my files. I would love more clarity.

Right now, I have two teams and have drafts and projects in both. One is a free team and the other is and education team. I have the most drafts in my education team as it’s the one I have been using the most. The main question I have is:

  1. Does this mean I won't be able to edit any files in my drafts under my education team? Will I only have access to the "free" team and need to move my drafts from the education team to my free team? Or can I still edit in the other team because the filed are in the drafts?

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help answer my questions!

Hi @JVM , thanks for getting in touch about this.

Just letting you know that when your education status expires, your education team will automatically move to the free Starter plan.

This Starter plan allows for one project with up to three FigJam files, three Figma Design files, and three Figma Slides files within it. If your education team has more than this after the downgrade, it will be locked to prevent any further editing.

Please take a look at your education team and the projects and files within it. If you're going to be over the limit, we suggest doing the following before your education status expires:

  • Combine files into a single project, staying within the limit.
  • Delete any extra projects.
  • Move excess files to your drafts.

The education plan provides free access to the Professional plan, so you can refer to this guide for more details on downgrading: Upgrade or downgrade your plan > Downgrade your plan > [Downgrade from the professional plan] tab

You can check out the differences in features for the Starter plan here: Figma plans and features

Hope this helps. Thanks again for reaching out.

Hi @Junko3, thank you for getting back to me and explaining what will happen.

I have one more question, I noticed you mentioned I can move excess files to my drafts. Does this mean I will still be able to edit and access the files under drafts in my education plan after the plan expires?

Thanks again!
