Hello, I want to ask why the side menu in figma blurs when I don't put my mouse on it.

✅ Focus Optimization

  • Figma fades or blurs side UI panels to direct your attention to the main design canvas. It’s a common UX pattern in creative tools to reduce distraction.

✅ Hover-Based UI Activation

  • When your mouse is not on the panel, Figma assumes you're not using it, so it de-emphasizes it.

  • As soon as you move your cursor over it, it becomes fully opaque and interactive again.

✅ Performance & Aesthetic

  • A subtle blur or dim effect can give a cleaner, less overwhelming look especially on large screens or complex projects.

Figma does not provide a built-in option to disable this behavior. It’s part of their interface design.

If you find it distracting or less accessible:

🛠️ Workaround Tips:

  • Keep the panel focused by clicking on it – even if your mouse leaves, it may stay active for some actions.

  • Use keyboard shortcuts to access tools instead of relying on mouse hover (e.g., Shift + R to toggle rulers, Alt + 1/2/3 to switch between tabs).

How do you reproduce that?
I am currently up to date and running the desktop version on Mac and I am not getting that. I swear if this happens to me my company will 100% leave and go back to Sketch.

We are already testing a sketch cross back just because of the added clicks and rearranged, renamed, new icon and horrible click buried assets.

This is a design tool for designing UX, Tools need to be immediately accessible & viewable at all times. We all have our own workflows and telling a designer where there focus needs to be IS NOT anyone else’s job. Your workaround is not a solution for our team, we’ll go back to Sketch.

(adobe ubates may always screw us up, but for as bad as adobe is, they don’t hide all their tools.
