What loads when opening a branch (ex. archived files). What gets loaded? When opening the main file, are branches and archived files also loading?

When opening a main file, are associated branches also loading?
I believe when you open a branch, only the branch itself is loaded. Similarly, when you open the main file, only the main file is loaded. We load a little metadata (like how many branches there are) in order to show UI that points to them, but the bulk of the data (i.e. the files themselves) aren’t loaded.
