Now I have to go, click and then select the variable. But as a person that knows the variables the team uses, would be great to just have the ability to type name and add it (for speed)

In addition, opening up a search box to select other variables as is the current behavior when clicking on a selected color style/variable.
Reiterating how tedious it is needing to click. The behavior is inconsistent and throws me off because I expect to be able to type in the variable name when it is a variable.
These attributes of an object are all easily applied and they are the preferred experience IMO:
Many other attributes require extra clicks to access that same list of variables. (Layer is very difficult to discover that it is even an option)
In most input boxes, you can begin with = to reveal a list of vars and then keep typing to find the one
