Password Protect Prototype Preview Link

We’ve made a HIGHLY confidential presentation in Figma and want to send to the client to review as a Previewed Prototype.

I’m not finding a means of protecting JUST the access to the link of the preview. Certainly the file itself is protectable as such, but we don’t want them looking behind the green curtain. Lotta munchkins. (And no.)

Are we missing something?

Also checkboxes to have Figma UI turned off by default in a Preview Link would be welcome!

Hi @ChadL,

It’s great that you’re using Figma for your highly confidential presentation. Here are some tips to help you securely share your prototype with your client and control their access:

  1. Restrict Access to the Prototype Link:

    • Invite-Only Access: Instead of sharing a public link, invite specific email addresses. This ensures only those invited can access the prototype.
    • Password Protection: Figma doesn’t support password-protected links yet, but sharing the prototype via email invitation can offer similar security.
  2. Limit Access to the Main File:

    • Make sure the main design file permissions are restricted to your team members only. Set the file permissions to “Can View” or “Can Edit” for your team and “No Access” for others.
    • Avoid sharing the link to the design file itself with the client.
  3. Use Present Mode:

    • Share the prototype in Present mode, which hides the Figma UI and presents the prototype cleanly. Click the Play button (:arrow_forward:) in the upper-right corner and share the URL from the presentation view.
  4. Turn Off Figma UI by Default:

    • There isn’t a direct checkbox for this, but you can ask your client to press F on their keyboard to enter Fullscreen mode. This hides the Figma UI for a more immersive experience.
    • Alternatively, manually enter Fullscreen mode before copying and sharing the URL.
  5. Additional Tips:

    • Prototype Settings: Make sure the interaction flows and starting points are clear and don’t reveal more than intended.
    • Overlays and Comments: Hide or remove any overlays or comments you don’t want the client to see before sharing the link.

Hope this helps!

The first part of this sentence was the answer, thank you!

Is there a means of having a shared prototype preview link go full screen and have the Figma UI OFF by default?

Certainly, @ChadL! Let’s dive back into the Figma sea and find that elusive treasure chest of UI magic. :ocean:

Full-Screen Enchantment:

  • You seek a shared prototype link that opens in full-screen glory, sans the Figma UI. A noble quest!
  • While there isn’t a direct checkbox for this, fear not—I’ve got a workaround spell for you.

The Full-Screen Ritual:

  1. Fullscreen Incantation: When sharing the prototype link, instruct your client to press the key: F. This will whisk them away into the immersive world of your design.

  2. Manual Mode: Alternatively, you can manually enter Fullscreen mode before copying and sharing the URL.
