I am able to measure distance between an object and a guide in a file by pressing option and hovering over guide but cannot do so between two objects.
I can measure distance in other files but not in this one.

It looks like there is some large layer on top of everything.
yes, it looks like that but there’s not.
Create new artboard and copy all the elements into that artboard and check.
I had a teammate encounter a bug recently where holding option to measure distances between objects stopped working. The issue resolved itself but I don’t know how or why. Maybe a tab refresh would fix it.
