Sections are amazing and I use them a lot after they were released.
However, when working on layers inside a large section, I will be zoomed in so that a large section is going to fill my entire view-screen in Figma app.
Clicking on an empty space is a common thing to do in Figma as it is a typical way to deselect a layer. But clicking on an empty space inside a section is not the same as clicking empty space in the void. It means selecting the section I’m inside. This makes it very easy to accidentally move a section when that is not wanted.
I think it should be harder to select and thereby accidentally move a section. My suggestion is that a section can only be selected by clicking it’s frame-title or optionally it’s frame-border. In my opinion Sections do not need to be selected and moved all the time and are edited quite rarely compared to other types of layers. This will make Sections easier to work with and accidental movement of sections should be reduced.
P.S.
There is also Photoshop way of having separate options for Locking and making a layer Immovable. (The padlock and uni-directional arrow buttons in PS layer list.) This could be an alternative way to solve this but I prefer my first suggestion above.
Thanks.
+1. Sections are extremely important for maintaining order, but they are a pain to work in. Trying to select multiple items by dragging most often leads to moving the section they are in. Seems that all actions to keep components in order take exessive amount of clicking and draging.
+1. I keep accidentally selecting the section at certain zoom levels. When working with a large variety of graphics on a frame, it makes it really hard to select and move things around while zoomed out at a scale where I can see everything.
+1. I would expect same behavior as frames, since we’ve been using frames before to sectionize stuff. Frames don’t get selected when selecting stuff inside of them with a selection box.
Yes please! The only viable way for me to use sections is to add it around my frames when I’m done working, which isn’t ideal. Using them while I’m still working inside the frame they’re nested in is just not an option, it’s just so unusable.
