Layers panel of the left sidebar should open at default

Design documents open with the page panel closed by default. This is also true for the viewer role and the dev mode. I notice that stakeholders who view our design files have difficulty opening this.
This takes us a lot of time to explain each time. Now we have an explanation on our cover page of how it works to open this.

I think it actually makes sense if the page panel is open by default. Especially because Figma itself also gives advice on how to divide the design file with multiple pages. If a functionality is so default in use, it must also be open by default.

How are you experiencing this?

Hey Vincent, thanks for sharing your feedback!

The layers panels should be opened by default when you open the file like this:

Is it what you attend to do? And, can you confirm if it is what you see on your end when you open the file? If not, please share a screenshot so I can have a better ‌look at it.

As a workaround, I’d recommend you to try clearing your app cache and let us know if this doesn’t help clear the issue?

You can clear the desktop app cache on a Mac in the Help menu under Troubleshooting. If you’d prefer to manually clear your cache you can:

  1. Quit the Figma desktop app
  2. Open Terminal.app and enter the following command: rm -rf "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Figma"
  3. Try opening the desktop app again

Hope this helps!
