Education Plan Ending

Hello, I️ recently received an email that my education plan is ending and that I️ will need to upgrade to the professional plan.

I️f I️ do not upgrade, and I️ stay on the free plan, will I️ loose everything? I️ don’t entirely understand how my access will change.

Thank you
Elle

Hey @elle_rotstein, thank you for reaching out!

The education plan is basically a free version of the professional plan.

If you want to continue using Figma on the free Starter team, we recommend that you do the following:

  • Move up to three Figma design and three FigJam files into one project
  • Remove extra projects
  • Move files to another team or to your drafts
  • Download copies of your account invoices

Here are a few things to keep in mind before you downgrade:

  • File limit: On the Starter plan, your team can have three FigJam files and three Figma design files with a maximum of three pages per design file. You can invite as many people as you want to view or edit these files. If you have more than the allowed number of files in your team when you downgrade, Figma will prevent you from being able to edit your files. To keep editing those files, move them to your drafts or another team. Learn more about moving files →
  • Project limit: On a Starter plan, your team will have one project. If your team has more than one project when you downgrade, Figma will lock your team and prevent you from editing your files. To keep editing, you’ll need to reorganize your files and projects so they are under those limits. Learn more about moving projects and moving files →

We will never delete files on your behalf, but if the files exceed the limits of the Starter plan when your Education plan expires, you won’t be able to edit those files until you move the remaining files to your drafts.

Hope this helps! Feel free to let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!

What is the reason for ending the educational plan?

Will it be replaced with something similar?

Hey @Ian-B, sorry for the confusion!

Figma isn’t ending the educational plan. Your EDU plan is ending for you. This is likely based on the graduation date or other verification info you provided when initially signing up.

If you’re still a student, you can also re-verify to stay on the EDU plan:

My brother(not part of any educational scheme) teaches online courses on vector and graphic design to young people with autism, would he qualify for the edu plan?

Hey @Ian-B,

Yes - as an educator for a virtual classroom, he can be verified to have an EDU plan.

Hello, I work as a designer for a university and use Figma to design websites and applications for the university. Am I eligible to apply for the educational plan as an administrator?

Hey @Buddy_Chung, thanks for reaching out!

No, you are not eligible. The Figma EDU plan is only available for verified students and educators.

hey I’m French, when I left high school my student email linked to my high school was deleted, so in order not to lose my Figma account I changed the email address of the account to a personal email address,
so normally the education plan should end automatically since my email address is not a school email address,
the problem is that it has now been more than three months and the education plan is still active and it’s really annoying for me because some people cannot have access to my projects because they do not have the education plan,
how do I get the education plan on my personal account to end and return to a normal plan?

Hey @nicolas.richard, sorry for the trouble and confusion!

Your email not being associated with an EDU email address does not automatically end your EDU plan. Your Figma EDU verification is valid for two years. Since you were verified as a student on the 7th of February 2024, your student plan is still valid until the 7th of February 2026.

That said, your student plan is associated with nicolas.richard’s team, so all you need to do is create a new team to collaborate with other users who are not on an EDU plan.

nicolas.richard

Oh okay I see, but then once the EDU plan is finished, which team will be deleted?

Because if I’m not mistaken, with the free plan we are only entitled to one team, right?

Hey @nicolas.richard, yes - that is correct.

Once verification ends, the team will still exist, but you will have time to make some adjustments. Keeping in mind that you’re limited to only one team and project with three collaborative files, you’ll need to consolidate your teams into one by moving your drafts and files into your preferred team.

ok thank you very much for your help and advice !
