Figma Sites : Custom Domain Not Connecting

Imtiyaz_Ahmed

Hey Team,

I have been trying to link a sub-domain to my Figma Sites for a while and it’s not happening. I have a main domain ‘www.imtiyazahmed.com’ and I created a sub-domain from it : ‘kittu.imtiyazahmed.com’

I followed the proper procedure to add the DNS Records, name and values. I buy and maintain my domains in GoDaddy site. Once I added this sub-domain to Figma Site, it told me that it might take upto 24-48 hours for the changes to go live.

I waited for 48 hours, there was no update. Then I disconnected the domain, deleted the records and recreated the subdomain and DNS Records. I added it to Figma site again and waited for 48 hours and yet there was no update. It kept showing me that ‘it will take more time’

Kindly help me out. I have attached the images for your reference. Both of figma sites and godaddy dns record screen shots.

Hi! I have the same problem. Did you find a solution for this?

Not yet. I was hoping to find a solution through this article. If this persists, I was planning to Mail figma officially because this breaks the whole point of having and using figma sites.

One alternate way I am currently solving this is by using “Domain forwarding”. Temporary solution to make sure a sub-domain is being used but is not useful in many cases

Thank you for the reply. I’m planning to mail figma too. I’ll let you know if something changes

Hey,

Hope you are doing good. So the issue has been resolved.

I wrote an email to Figma yesterday in detail and they help me figure out the problem. In my case the issue was that I was not adding all DNS records in GoDaddy.

Figma Sites specifies that two records need to exist - ‘cname’ and  ‘txt’

I was created DNS record for only cname, cause I thought only one of them was needed. Once I made sure both DNS records got added in GoDaddy, the subdomain was connected successfully.

Hey,

Thanks to ChatGPT I found the solution to my problem and what worked for me was switching from the apex domain to the subdomain. Figma doesn’t support apex domains like mysite.com, so I connected www.mysite.com instead.

I set the TXT and CNAME records with those Figma provided then I set up a redirect from mysite.com to www.mysite.com through my domain registrar. That way, everything points to the version Figma actually supports — and it works now.
