Add auto layout to Sections

definitely agree! It would also be amazing if the autolayout could inherit both the horizontal AND vertical spacing.

Autolayout is constraint to just horizontal or vertical spacing, and that make sense because it follows the css specs but the Sections feature could break this rule to make it easier to organize both rows and columns at once.

Loving how neat my artboards look after the addition of the sections feature. 👍

I suggest allowing us to add Auto Layouts to them so we don’t have to mess with the dimensions of the section to fit our frames and/or make it look consistent and neat.

I’d settle for a wrapping in auto layout — a feature that CSS definitely has.

I would love this, but what I might find even more interesting to explore is having auto-padding.

Let me explain
Sections are great to group categories together and freely moving artboards around within them allows me to make easy-to-navigate prototype flows. But I am constantly resizing the sections I create.

Putting them in auto-layout would mess up how I visualize prototype flows, so what could be a nice alternative is automatically resizing the artboard based on its contents and predefined padding. This would allow for messy flows while maintaining clean structures.

Agreed, that would be a fantastic addition to Sections!

+1, would be very helpful to keep everything nice and tidy! Currently I’m constantly shuffling and double clicking the border.

This feature would be critical to standardize the use of Sections.

Right now, resizing sections and organizing their internal frames adds too much manual work during the creative process of every screen that our team had to discard them until this feature is available.

Sections are a significant feature for prototype-building and organization of a page; they could also be of good use on UI/UX flows that are open to changes.

In addition to product design, we use Figma for a ton of clickthrough slide decks (brand guidelines, client presentations, etc).

Auto-layout makes slide management a breeze (because you can just drag to re-arrange frames).

Except for one big proble: putting a giant frame around your slide frames breaks the clickthrough.

So having auto-layout on Sections would instantly solve that.

Listen to me Figma. Sections + auto-layout instantly makes you the most desirable slide/deck/presentation tool on the market.

Honestly I don’t use sections in FigJam and this is the reason why. Give me autolayout and I’ll readily switch my top-level organizational frames to sections.

Started using Sections in my new team, and we use a custom Title component inside them all. Just having the ability to apply constraints so they fill or are fixed would be a huge time saver!

This would make structuring files and especially dev handover with the new dev mode so much easier! I hope Figma adds this soon.

I would love to see this in Figma soon. I find the usefulness of Sections to be pretty limited without Autolayout available for contents within a section, and for handoff documentation I would like to have a standard “intro” component that my team can attach to the beginning of every section to call out user journeys, label the section, and provide dev notes and useful links. If Sections behaved the same as ordinary frames, I would be able to do this easily, and the “intro” component would grow vertically as needed for taller sections.

This would be incredibly helpful, especially with the new “ready for dev” feature of sections.
