Sometimes updating the component is not an option: At times one needs to change the control/component so much that I will break existing screens and views. Or you rely on community files to build your UI and you need to take in updates from a newer version of the file. So you duplicate the newer file, enable it in the Assets, and need to use the different version from now on. At this point, there is no way to reliable track down all instances of the component and weeding them out is a hassle. My workaround is for the color deprecated main component to some weird acid green color to make them stand out. This makes the workspace not ready for user testing and presentations for a while and weeding out can take a while. I think there should a better way to deprecate and replace components. Sincerely, Jurijs
On macOS or Windows, I can use my favorite font by installing the desktop application, but on the ChromeOS, I can’t use any other font that isn’t in the Figma’s font base
Hello everyone 🙂 I am creating this prototype as a template for my portfolio. This is the “Contact” page and I would like to understand if it is possible to associate each section (Name, email, subject, email, send) with the related action associated with a mail host. Long story short, is it possible to contact me from the prototype via email by entering one’s email? Thanks!
Having moved from Sketch I am missing the functionality to quickly move to a specific artboard/frame within the prototyping view. In Sketch there was a dropdown to choose a specific artboard as a starting point, as well as the ability to start the prototype from the currently selected board and not a specific starting point each time. Internally I used this in design reviews with engineers a LOT to clarify points and revisit specific interactions. Setting a default start point is great, but not being able to navigate to a specific screen is a little frustrating at times. Does anyone else think this would be useful?
When inspecting the following component, I can click on the font to see the font weight and style in the inspect panel. When my dev clicks on the same item, he does not have all the CSS information that I have in the inspect panel, specifically he is missing font weight and font style. He does not have the ability to see the different font weights, which is unacceptable. Is there some way to fix this? Component with my inspect panel: My (designer) Inspect panel: Developer Inspect Panel: ✏️ Note from the moderator There is a way to see the actual font weight, but it’s hidden and inconvenient: Show Font Weight in Inspect panel - #5 by Gleb
CAD-style zoom: It’d be nice to be able to quickly toggle to the last/previous zoom/view, or better yet: Set up a handfull of zoom/view areas on a Figma page/canvas. This would save me the extra steps of zooming all the way out to spot the next area of interest, and then zooming into that next area. Some TV remotes have a “last channel” button. A “last zoom” button would speed up users’ cross-referencing between 2 areas of a vast Figma file/canvas. The driver’s seat in cars have at least 2 presets to accommodate 2 drivers’ physical preferences. Being able to set 2 zooms/views on a Figma page would multiply my efficiency. Thx
Idea: A special layer group that can be shown/hidden, where you can add arrows or other visual markup to compliment comments/feedback. Should sit outside the design context in the layers and application UI. Basically act exactly like comments - but add drawing/visuals to it.
I am encountering sound issues for Figma Slides when in Presenter + Notes mode. When playing a video that requires sound (especially a larger file size) the sound duplicates across both the audience and presenter screens and creates an out of sync duplicate of the audio, which of course sounds terrible. Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there a way to mute sound on the presenter screen, but retain sound on the audience screen?
When using Sticky Notes, I often wish I could make the Sticky wider. The width restriction hinders Stickies’ UX. I’ll use Stickies to take long notes, but due to the lack of width options (I’m already using the maximized width and the smallest font size), my sentences jump down a line, and the formatting could be better. I want to be able to use an element in FigJam as a substitute for Apple Notes or an MS Word Document. This would be extremely helpful for all kinds of use cases. If you want to leave stickies as is, you could add a formatting option to the “Rectangle” or create an entirely new element within the program…a “Notepad” or something similar. Thanks for listening, Figma Team. I love your products and hope this inquiry can make them even better!
I really hate the fact that you can’t be specific about which properties you want to pull from a nested instance. Also that I can’t order them in the way I see fit. Please guys
When building components that are a combination of atomic components, it would be great to be able to control which properties show up in the inspector at the top level. For example, if the nested components has an icon show/hide, and text string property fields, it would be GREAT if I could select to only have one of those show up in the compound component I have created.
Hi Figma crowd! I do not know but what the hell this Layers menu is always closed? Every time I have to collapse this Layers accordion, again and again. Please fix it, show it always expanded. Thank you 🙂
Hey everyone, I love Slides. I can’t wait to make it my go-to tool; I design a lot and also give many presentations. This gives me the best of both worlds. However, there’s still one important option missing: The option to share a presentation externally without someone necessarily having to work on it. I often get asked after my presentation if I can share it. It’s possible now, but videos don’t play in it. When will this be fixed? Another thing: when I present from Figma, a video is blurry for the first 15-20 seconds. How can I fix this?
Hey! In code, border and outline are different things. In Figma, when we define the stroke of a component, the dev mode always shows the border. Even if the border is outside. This is important, for example, when defining the focus state, which should be outline, not border. This way, when developers implement the component we’ve designed and use the Figma specs… they implement everything as a border and not as an outline. I think it would be interesting to differentiate between those two things so that there is more uniformity between the language of designers and developers.
Summary We recently got our engineers using Dev Mode, and more specifically they’re LOVING the VS Code extension. Except, there’s one small thing that is a nuisance for them, that they wish had an option to solve it… Figma links by default open in the browser (or the Figma app). Request ⭐ They wish there was an option for Figma dev mode links to open in VS Code by default. Alternative solution If you exit Focus mode in VS Code, would be nice to see the user avatars in the file, so that I could even click myself (other session in Figma/browser) to find the link that was opened: Thank you!
Figma - Hear me out Can we please make opening community files faster? Opening any community file requires 3 clicks. Every file takes at least 4 to 5 seconds to load up, with heavier files taking even longer. As a user, I find myself in two situations when navigating community files: I’m browsing and want to open several files at once directly from the community search results. I know exactly what I’m looking for, I know what the thumbnail of the file looks like OR who the author is, but I still have to go through the detailed view before accessing the file.
I can’t say for all designers, but I have a pattern when I’m going to start a new design project which consists of splitting my design process and documentation into two fronts: one in a Figma file where all my UI work lies, and the other in a FigJam file which tells more about the business rules, brainstorms, workshops, text documentation, personas studies, diagrams, etc. Well, since both those files complete each other as one thing, I usually work by switching the Figma tabs between those two. Why don’t we have a feature where we can “see” a piece of a FigJam workspace inside a Figma file to avoid situations like this: To avoid constantly switching tabs to check a value canvas which lies in the FigJam file, I copied and pasted it into Figma. If I make any changes to it while I’m thinking, I need to remember to replace it in the FigJam file too. The need to look at both files arises because the information from both needs to be in the same field of view.
As far as I know you can only set a fixed lenght for lines, so you can’t have a line that adjusts inside an autolayout. I’ve avoided using lines, instead I use an autolayout layer and set the height to something like 1 or 2 px so it appears as a line, however I’m working on a protoype that uses dashed lines and I can’t seem to make it work. Adding a fill setting to lines would solve issues like this. Or if someone has a better way of working around this issue I’d love to know.
There are a lot of shops using Vue. It would be really great if Figma would provide the ability to support that in Code Connect.
After locking anything, it becomes a complete detachment and now I have to scroll through the entire list to locate them. Instead if hovering on the locked item let me unlock it then and there would be great. Or atleast auto navigate to locked files if I click on them twice or smthn.
Hey Figma I’d like a feature that let’s me in addition to “can edit, can view, resend…” “pause view”, which restrict an already invited viewer to the file and then you can opening it back up without having to re-invite (if you shouldn’t). I’m always in a place where I advise my clients to not view/interact with or comment on the file while we’re designing and can very distracting having a lot of people moving around the file while you’re designing when their presence isn’t for anything collaborative.
Every now and then I press command Q on accident when I meant to press command A and Figma closes itself immediately. As I use command A a lot to select things it would be awesome if one needed to hold command Q to quite Figma. Thanks for your time. 🙂
As the person who is responsible for the payments of my teams subscriptions, I would like to have access to the receipts of payed invoices in the Admin > Billing page/section of my teams’ Figma account, So that I would not need to contact Figma support in case there is a problem with receiving links to receipts by email. At the moment I can only access the invoices from the Billing section. The emails are still convenient, so no need to change that 😀
I wish Figma has its own ToDo list embedded with the comments, so when I use comments to take notes for my action items, I can easily turn them into reminders or checklist without leaving the tool.
I wish there’s a way to export my whole project as one piece without loosing my components connection. I am working on my graduation project in my project I have 4 files 1. kit file 2. library 3. design file 4. delivery file 5. front pages file all these files components are in the library file. The issue that when I try to export these files for backup I found that all my library connections are lost. and I have more than 500+ component, it’s very frustrating.
