Allow us to dock/move the new UI3 toolbar

this kind of user hostile nonsense is why i have switched to penpot and dread whenever i have to open this garbage app

just roll it back it’s not that hard. NO ONE WANTS THIS

Hi, everyone. I’ve made instruction on how to move up the toolbar.

Today I tried UI3 again after many months, hoping that this glaring issue (see all the feedback) was resolved but nope, the floating bar is still there.
You fixed the other floating panels, how long does it take to release a fix for the action bar?

• let users decide whether to have it at the bottom or at the top
• give an option to always hide it (power users use shortcuts, they don’t use the action bar)

For now it’s back to the previous UI for me, once more.

The toolbar’s placement is problematic on large displays. With my 27" screen, I naturally focus about a third of the way down, where I position my content. The bottom placement not only falls out of my line of sight but also violates Fitts's Law—all other key controls are top-aligned, making this an inefficient outlier.

It should either be at the top, or draggable to any position.

PLEASE let us make the floating toolbar a statically positioned bar across the top of the screen. I rarely need to use this, get it out of my working space. 

I get the whole idea around getting rid of panels, but i am of the school of thought that app chrome should be app chrome. Keep it fixed in one position and I will no longer register that it’s there. (In a good way.) Float it over my WORKING AREA and it’ll bother me every day.

Agreed. Still haven’t seen an option for this 8 months on. Hoping I’ve just missed it? I’ve also just read a Figma blog post talking about being patient to adapt to this new thing. Why should I have to change my behaviour to accommodate a design idea? The blog also talks about how most people use shortcuts anyway. Yes I do! This means there’s even less reason for this toolbar to be floating in the way of my work (it does not save canvas space in my view) and interferes with my dock unless I position my window a certain way. It’s totally wild and baffling you still can’t move it.

I have to agree with all of these posts, please, please move the toolbar back to the top or have it as a floating toolbar where it can be dragged into a more convenient position!! Due to this issue I still have not moved to the new UI3!

Just got the notification yesterday that they’re taking away the option to use the old Figma interface and forcing everyone to use this, so I hope they’re ready for the backlash. I came here to find the way to move it only to discover that it’s been 8 months and it’s still broken- they need to accept that this is not a feature, it’s a flaw.
 

Just fix it.

Going back to the previous UI now with the expectation that they’re going to hurry up and fix this issue before forcing everyone to try and use it.

Come on guys. Your reasoning may be sound for it’s location but that doesn’t mean in the real world you are right.
These people commenting are professional UX designers giving you free usability feedback. Some of these comments are practically free diary studies of people’s daily working scenarios. You are causing your users some real pain. This isn’t a refusal to adapt to UI changes. 
And I’m sure many people here can remember how frustrated us designers used to get with Adobe products. That all ultimately worked out well for Figma when designers started migrating and advising their peers to.
This sort of frustration gets remembered and talked about.

Still no updates after 8 months. I use the old design on my work account and sometimes check out the personal one to see if you have fixed the toolbar. And now, I am forced to accept it despite all the negative feedback from users. This is super frustrating and interferes with my workflow. As a designer, I understand that some changes need to happen, even if they cause frustration to users. But there doesn’t seem to be a valid reason for this change?? Illusory brand consistency should not be the priority over actual usability.

Iv spent the good part of half a day using UI3 as the old one is going and i have a couple of problems with how to do simple things like auto layouts and positioning but the tool bar at the bottom center is by far the worst part of the ui, years of using tools like adobe and figma has conditioned me to look up for a tool and it going to be a very hard habbit to break.

Also bring back the plug in drop down on the tool bar, i struggle to find it and now plugins are not as easy to find and use

This is by far the single worst aspect of the new UI, It looks like an ipad app instead of a real desktop tool. It just floats there as a distraction over my work. Dreading the forced switch next month and the productivity hit my workflow is going to take.

Please, please, PLEASEEEE move the UI toolbar to the top.
It is completely in the way on the bottom.

Until this is changed, I refuse to switch to the new system until you force it upon me like another useless AI feature (oh wait you do that too now! 😛).

I saw this statement and had the same exact thoughts you did! That is until I remembered that Figma is cross-platform and they're probably talking about Windows touch device and tablet/iPad users.

Just another reminder that designing products for multiple platforms is tricky. If you take a "one UI" across platform approach, you're guaranteed to design in more concessions than if you tailored each endpoint to its target OS and interaction model.

We dont want to use new UI becasue we - designers - dont want toolbar to be in fixed position as it is in UI3. ALLOW TO MOVE IT PLEASE!

This is a no brainer. It’s like swapping the break for the accelerator! Muscle memory is a real thing!

It will be really nice feature, and easier transition to the new UI3 layout. Now the tool bar really close to the mac dock, and I need to precisely move the cursor just to pick the right tool, and not the mac icon.

what is the status on toolbar freedom? 

Remove the "FigPal” function, nobody needs that and give us the option to move the toolbar to Top!

I made a new fix:

1. Open developer tools
2. Sources → » → snippets
3. + New snippet
4. Add code blow
5. CTRL + Enter or click play

Figma chrome devtools saves the snippet, so you only have to open dev → play snippet every time you start Figma

It is standard for desktop apps to have the toolbar at the top of the page. Having the toolbar in a nonstandard location HINDERS usability. I had reverted to the old version for a long time solely for the toolbar placement.
