Allow to overwrite prototype trigger that is set to "None"

Sometimes when trying to add a trigger to an object, I cannot choose a trigger (e.g. “on click” or “after delay”) because it’s already taken, even though no prototyping noodle is showing up. In the prototyping panel I then notice that the action is set to “none”.

I wish that I could just overwrite a prototyping trigger from the interaction panel if the action is set to “none”.

I’m surprised there are not many votes on this; this usability bug has been slowing down my workflow for years–I’m requesting that Figma fix this issue.

If I copy a single artboard from a prototype that had an interaction, the interaction remains but is set to “none” so then when I go to wire it up, I don’t notice there is a “click” interaction already. This results in the “noodle” interaction being “on drag” which always also adds smart animate! I then have to take 3 extra actions to resolve: 1, remove the “on click” interaction set to “none”, change the trigger from “on drag” to “on click” now that it is available, then updated the animation to “instant”.

Even as a seasoned Figma designer this behavior STILL trips me up. Please make it so that triggers do not copy and default to set to “none”, or allow us to override the trigger from the prototype panel asMaria suggested.

Thank you, Danielle. I appreciate the support. I had a hard time verbally explaining this frustration, but you added excellent points. Maybe it will get more upvotes like this.
