Alignment Options in Image Fills

bear

As I was looking for a way to do this natively in Figma, I came across this concept article on Medium. In the article, Андрей Насонов (Andrey Nasonov) describes adding the option to choose alignment in the image settings beyond the default centered. This would be a simple but huge improvement to image settings, especially for responsive design.

Here’s his example of how that might look on the Properties Panel for images:

If anyone has found any way to work around this other than individually cropping images for different container widths, pls hmu! 🙏

This is a fantastic article and I’m also very keen to know if there is a solution for this or if there is any traction on this functionality to be added in future releases?

Huge gap for creating truly responsive layouts that can replicate CSS capabilities.

Definitely in support of this - a great, and simple feature to have

Any updates on this topic? This is really a missing feature that would solve a lot of problems and spare us to mask every image just to position it correctly inside a rectangle.

Hi, I’m checking in to see if there have been any new features added to Figma to support this or if any methods have been discovered that can resolve the alignment of images.

Would love this feature

I’ve posted this idea once, and no one voted, but since you’ve collected some votes, we need to push it!

Please add this! Image fill is basically only half-functional without it.

Jack_Reeves

this seems like basic functionality. no movement since april 2021. Is this what we can expect from adobe?

Universalnick

@dvaliao Is this concept possible to implement?

Jason_Williams

+1 here as well. In our design system we have header components that should be able to take any image but not being able to align the image within a FIT makes our designs difficult to show what we intend. Given that this is a very basic feature of CSS and how often that it is used I hope we can get this added to our image options. Also, since images can be background fills in auto layout it would be nice if it worked for any image fill.

Let’s revive this thing, because is mindblowing this is still not possible with Figma.

a shame that this is not yet possible …

Throwing another voice in the ring. Trying to fully embrace auto-layout to create responsive designs directly in Figma, and simple blockers like this keep popping up.

+1000 here! This is a must have feature. When creating mock ups that need perfect crop fitting, it would be great to align top or bottom.

A workaround: if you set it to crop, use Shift + arrows to position your image using the snap to grid function.

I need this to add a background image fill to our Design Language System. All of our pages use a responsive image background and this needs to be reflected in our designs. This functionality has been around in html since the beginning of time. Seems like table stakes for a web design tool.

Rafastesia

C’mon, Figma developers! Your incredible tool needs this function!

Markus_Schmon

+1 or give images auto layout functionalities (hug/fix/fill with min/max and optional fixed aspect ratio).

+1 from me, too 🙏

+1 Yes, that can be a simple and useful option.

Ilya_Danilov-Nitusov

This suggestion is perfectly presented and is a feature that is sorely missed.

Hi there, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on image fill properties. I completely understand how helpful this feature would be!
I have shared your feedback internally for future consideration. Your input is truly valuable to us, so please feel free to vote!

Thanks,

Jack_Reeves

Just posting to show my annoyance. 3 years and still no movement on this simple request

Kory_Gabriel

Bumping this up as a feature I would love to see. Running into a situation right now that this would easily solve!
