Add Variable support for Letter Case

letter-case-var

It would be really helpful to be able to use a variable to set a Type Style’s Letter Case (under the Type Settings meatball menu).

It could be a String Variable, and the options would be “As entered”, “Uppercase”, “Lowercase”, “Title case”, and “Small caps”.

I personally use modes to switch between different brands, and some brand styles require uppercase while others don’t allow it. This suggestion may be a small feature in the grand scheme, but I wonder if others would also find it useful.

Same here! We also used modes to switch between brands and have the same issue. This solution would be awesome.

Super useful thing while working on different brands as already was mention. We are not going to be able to implement typography variables until this cases are covered 🥲

Sabrina_Rodriguez

Same here! Type variables are not suitable for a multi-brand library. Such a bummer!

Voted! We use sentence case on iOS buttons and uppercase on Android buttons.

Agree and voted! I work in-house and our brand uses particular fonts for certain scenarios which are only permitted in caps, not having this is a huge pain for us (so not only for users who may work for different brands!)

Voted! This would be super useful for us, as we are working with a multi brand design system.

VOTED! this is essential for my multi-brand system

This feature is very needed. Any updates on the agenda for this?

Natasha_Nicholson

Our team really needs this for our multi-brand design system! Are there any updates on this?

I work with multiple brands, some using different cases, this is really needed fast. Do we know if variables improvements are coming soon?

Hey All, thanks for the feedback!

We’ll pass this onto our Typography variables team for future consideration.

Thanks. This is our #1 variable need! Much appreciation if you could let the team know how important this need is.

I’m creating a product with multiple modes for brands and some user lowercase buttons, some title case, some all caps-- this would be SO useful. Voted!!

Please please please add this as a feature. As with everyone else, I manage multiple brand themes and need to be able to control case across the themes. The update can’t come soon enough!

+1. Need for multibrand support. Please.

Any update on this @dvaliao? Next couple months possibly? It’s literally just CSS text-transform…

I’ve made do with an incredibly cumbersome and not dev-friendly workaround that is basically a placeholder in hopes that this feature will be launched soon 🤞

Dennis_van_Vught

yes I really need this for a whitelabel branding solution…

Look for this in every release from Figma, but still nothing…

Still checking each release notes hoping to see this feature. Such a fundamental need for multi-brand design systems. The current workarounds are really holding back our team’s efficiency.

David_de_Jong

I’ve got exactly the same use case here… Multi-brand design systems with no way of changing the text case across modes! As a workaround, I may show/hide additional text with a different style depending on the mode… This is going to suck!

Kait_O_Malley

Same issue, switching between brands and some needing variables in casing. Our system has grown to include 5 brands, typography variables have made this possible but there are some misses including this one where we are making alt styles. Please add so I can make a true, clean multi-brand system with typeography.

20 brands here, please.
