Got it - thank you @Weirdo – I sent your message over to the engineering team. It does look like there’s still work that needs to be done.

For anyone else that sees this message from me:

If you could still let me know if things are still slow OR if things seem fixed for you, I would appreciate it. If you could also include what OS + browser version + app version you’re using, that would be immensely helpful as well.

  • App v116.18.6

Still having the same slow issues here. I have a test file if you would like it still?

OS Mac Ventura version 13.6.6
Figma Desktop app version 116.18.6

FYI: the copy/pasting & duplicating of text styles is a pain.

Hi,

I cleaned the app cache and restarded and reloaded tabs, but it’s still slow on my side as well. The file is linked to the library using the variables for font familiy and style, modifying text or editing components is slow and delayed when variables are used. This file only has one basic frame in it 😕 (file is already shared with support team)

I do not encounter this slowness on my other files which are considerably bigger than this one when using the library that doesn’t have the variables for text.

I’m using the desktop app (116.18.6) on Windows 11 (22h2 Entreprise)

Hey everyone - we rolled out some changes yesterday.

Can all affected by this try refreshing their files? There may some slowness as the file loads and tries to layout all the nodes in the file, but this should eventually settle.

Please let me know if you notice improvement, or if issues persist.

Hey ksn, still no change, file is slow as before.
Everything related to variable texts is very slow… delete object with text takes about 5-10 seconds, delete object without text is immediately.

Protoyping not working at all (freezes).

It seems that the problem is only with the text layers and not all the file becasue everything without text work fast as before.

It took a couple minutes but it does seem to be working fine now.
I’ll do some further testing with a bigger file, but I no longer notice the lags for editing text and copy/pasting content.

Definitely still seeing lagging in files with typography variable libraries enabled, even worse I’ve had it show the “Figma ran into a problem” error while cold booting the file a few times. The confusing part is even panning around or copy pasting general styles seems to stutter on this file, which is weird since this is a duplicate of another file and i had no such issues on that one.

Just a quick update:

Our engineering team was able to find and isolate the issue that was causing the more common issue with typography across users.

However, any residual issues don’t seem to be rooted in what was addressed (which is why some may still be having problems).

@M_Vlad and @Martin_Hill – I see you have been in touch with our tech quality team. Please continue working with them.

For any other users who are having issues they believe is related to this, please file a support ticket here. This would be appreciated, as the engineers are able to look at things individually when possible.

I’m experiencing similar issues. It’s starting to make Figma almost unusable and slowing me down considerably. It was ok, but has gotten worse recently.

Is there a fix, except disconnecting all font styles from variables?

As of December 2024, I decided to reconnect all texts to variables, but there has been no change.

I had to disconnect all variables again to be able to work with the file, and as Pro plan user, it’s very frasturating not been able to use all features of Figma.

My files take minutes to open and once I am in if I try to change anything the lag is infuriatingly long I am so frustrated

Hey all - I know this has been a pain point for you, and I do want you to know I am hearing you.

 

From my end, I don’t have an update -- after the original issue with the text styles was addressed, any lingering/newer reports were determined to be part of a separate issue, and file review would be the best option in identifying the problem for everyone’s unique instance.

 

With that said, my best recommendation now is to do the following:

 

  • Share edit access to the file[s] you continue to have issues on with support-share@figma.com (you won’t be billed for this).
  • File a support ticket here if you have not yet done so.
  • When filing the ticket, please include the exact names of the files you have shared to expedite the investigation process

 

I’m going to close this topic since it is older + the original issue was resolved. If anyone who comes across this is experiencing any issues you believe are related, please create a new forum topic. Appreciate your understanding!
