Question

Invite-only projects within an Educational Team

Felicia van Dam

So, I just received the Educational plan for Figma, and now have a team with Educational preferences. I e-mailed Figma in the past on how to create projects within the Educational plan, where students cannot see or edit each others work. They e-mailed me back that I could either create ‘invite-only’ projects or ‘view-only’ projects. (see step 4 picture:)

However, I cannot seem to  get this option when creating a team (See picture below). I tried emailing again, but now I get the response that I only have a ‘starter account’ and can only contact through Community Support Forum, therefore I'm reaching out here :)

Can someone help me with this? With the educational plan I should have the same options as the professional plan. However, I don't seem to get those.. So, is it not possible for me then? Or does anyone have another option on how the students can create projects within the educational team, that other students cannot see or edit these projects?

Thanks in advance!

Hey @Felicia van Dam - happy to help hash this out. There’s some info I want to get from you to make sure I cover all bases.

I think a good place to start is knowing that Figma subscriptions are based on teams, and not accounts. I mention this because this might be the source of some of the confusion.

You are correct with what you mentioned - education plan benefits are the same as professional ones. The only difference is that if you are approved to receive education status, you will get those benefits on one team for free for 2 years. After 2 years, you would need to get re-approved.

First -- I want to check: since you’ve been approved for education status, have you gone and applied the free subscription you have to a team yet? I wasn’t sure if you had completed that part -- after you get approved, you still need to take steps to apply your education plan on one of your teams.

If you have already have your education subscription assigned to one of your teams, do the students you plan to invite have Figma accounts? If so, have they also gone through the process of getting approved for education status?

Hi @ksn, thank you for your reply!

Yes, when I received the educational subscription (one week ago), I made a new team and made this an Educational team:

The students are not yet transcribed to Figma or the education status. I first wanted to figure everything out/test everything before I invited the students. I do have two other teachers invited to the educational team mentioned above. They both have Figma accounts & went to the process of getting approved.

So now, when I go to this Edu team, I want to create a project that is ‘invite-only’. But I don't see the option to do this, but according to the Figma helping page (see my first message) it should be available for the professional(educational) plan.

Got it! Thanks for the extra details. I did some testing on my end, and got a better understanding of what you meant with the modal. I’m going to follow up with our workflow team since something does seem off. It should work the same way as a standard professional team would. Will post a new reply here when I get an update. Thanks for your patience 🙏🏼
