Question

Figma not opening in Catalina 10.15.7

Carlota

Hello everyone, I have downloaded Figma to use in this version of my laptop but it is not opening. Any dialog is popping up saying that Figma is not compatible with this version.

When I click the Figma icon in the applications folder to opening, it just stays jumping on the navbar donw the page and never opens.

I hope somebody can help please. I don´t is anything related with some system permissions but a dialog to login should come up.

Hey @Carlota! Thanks for taking the time to reach out!

I’m afraid we don’t support using the Figma desktop app on MacOS versions below 11 any longer. See our guide below for more details: What are the system requirements for Figma?

The only workaround aside from upgrading your OS would be to continue working in the browser at the time. Figma supports the following browser: Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.
You can find more information in our Help Center article: How do I configure my browser for Figma?

Thank you for your understanding, and please let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Carlota
since Figma’s desktop app doesn’t support macOS Catalina 10.15.7, using the web version is a good idea. For the font installer, you might need at least macOS 11.0. Check Figma’s system requirements for more details.

The same happened to me but I prefer using desktop due to performance.
Where can I find the latest version compatible with Catalina for download?

I am not sure because when I called Apple, they sent it to me. I would suggest you to call them or look in their website. They may have all versions there.

I meant latest Figma version that is compatible with Catalina 10.15.7.

Hello @Gayani_S is there any solutions for us that still only have old OS to access Figma Desktop? Because my Figma Web can’t detect my local font due to Figma Agent Font can’t be installed (required new OS). Please, can you pass this issue to the teams for us that still have only old OS and can’t purchase new device? Thank you!

Hi everyone at Figma, here’s my heart-breaking experience from yesterday: I also was “forced” to update from the Figma app itself, here’s the last screenshot of the tool on my MBP with Catalina 10.15.7 and wonder if we as “old version” users can download a safe version for our OSs, because even installing the back up DMGs I have on my hard drives the installer automatically updates the package to the new version which is pretty questionable IMO but can understand that decision from an company perspective that needs revenue.

I switch from Adobe to Figma for many reasons but this feels very shocking because there’s so many work made with Figma instead other software options for trusting the company, I’m still able to open the web version but it’s very annonying for many reasons.

Hope you guys put an eye on this, I think that if “old version” users can use the app on their computers is more likely to make more money because there’s more users than can use the tool and pay for Professional.

Thank you!

Try installing v124.6.5 (Figma Desktop App or Figma Agent) and blocking the desktop.figma.com domain using the hosts file.

Figma Desktop App:
https://desktop.figma.com/mac/Figma-124.6.5.zip

Figma Agent:
https://desktop.figma.com/agent/mac/FigmaAgent-124.6.5.zip

Or try installing the PKG:
https://desktop.figma.com/mac-universal/Figma-124.6.5.pkg

@tank666 Thank you for sharing. Can you elaborate on how to block Figma from auto installing future updates please?

@johnathan.frydman You should install the PKG kindly offered by @tank666. Then open Terminal this step is very important and must be done before opening the installed Figma app.

  1. Enter the following command:
defaults write com.figma.Desktop SUEnableAutomaticChecks -bool NO

  2. Then enter:
defaults write com.figma.Desktop SUAutomaticallyUpdate -bool NO

After that, Figma should run without any updates.
