Question

When will Figma fix the UNDO behaviour?

Levang_Ray

When using “Undo” I want to undo changes not “clicks” or selections.

Yes, this is addressed in several threads, but this is one of the reasons Figma is so frustrating, that I seriously considers changing job to a company NOT using figma. Funny how a UX design-tool can have a terrible User Experience.

Question: Will and When do we get this fixed?

Hey @Levang_Ray and @Couquelet_Christine,

I’m really sorry for the frustration this is causing — I’m surfacing your experience with this issue internally and will follow up with any status updates as soon as I have them. In the meantime, could you confirm whether you’re using the desktop or browser version of the app (or both)? That’ll help me better communicate with the appropriate stakeholders.

@Thomas Reem - Thanks! I’m using the browser version.

Couquelet_Christine

Cool, I am using desktop.

Thank you for confirming, @Levang_Ray and @Couquelet_Christine. I’ve reviewed this issue more in depth with our Product Support team, and while it’s something that’s on our radar, there isn’t currently a timeline we can share for when this behavior might be updated.

I understand this isn’t the answer you were hoping for — but I want to make sure your feedback is fully represented as we continue to advocate for improvements internally. To help with that, could you share a bit more about how this impacts your specific workflows? For example, are there particular tasks or collaboration moments where this behavior causes friction or slows you down?

The more detail we can pass along with regard to real-world impact, the better we can help prioritize changes. 🙏

Thanks for your answer.  Yes of course this slows me down every single day.  I agree with Ray in wanting to change tools because of this.  No other product works like this.  I will change a color on a component for example, then click around to go back to the frame that is using the component, decide that it was not a good choice so I undo, does nothing. Undo again, does nothing, etc. Finally after a bunch of undos, it finally does it.  In what world would you want an undo to select the last clicks that you did? It doesn’t even bring the UI to the component you clicked, it just selects it on the left. You can get lost so easily that you can give up easily on the Undo as you don’t know what is happening.

Thanks for your help.  This issue really surprises me as FIGMA is a tool for user experience designers and it makes me thing it wasn’t tested with users :(.

It’s simple. I want to “Undo changes” - not “selections”.

I click. I’m a clicker. After a change, I deselect to view the changes. Always. Sometimes i just click around.

Christine's example hits the nail. Sometimes I lose control over the undo-behavior because I don't know if I really undid changes, or just selected, de-selected, re-selected, or in some cases - undid changes outside the frame. No other software works like this.

It’s kinda like turning on and off the grid - you wouldn't include that in the undo, would you? Of course not.

I just want to be sure that if I hit Undo, i really Undid.

I completely agree with the words of this author. Every time I work with Figma, I encounter each of these problems. I have no idea why it's such a problem to add a setting and solve this bug...

Thanks so much @Azat, @Couquelet_Christine, and @Levang_Ray — this helps highlight the value of having more control or flexibility around this behavior. I've shared your input with the appropriate team, and we’ll continue to reference the feedback here as we explore future improvements in this area of Figma Design. Appreciate your patience and willingness to illustrate the why behind this request. We'll share any updates as they become available.
