I tested it on my end but couldn’t replicate the issue.

Experiencing the same issue, it only replace with the text instead of the whole symbol I copied.

Are you right-clicking your selection then clicking Paste to replace from the right-click menu or using the Paste to replace keyboard shortcut? What OS are you using? And is this happening in both the desktop app and the browser?

As asked previously, are you also able to share a screen recording or a file link shared with support-share@figma.com, so we can take a closer look?

Both shortcut and right-click don’t work, and it only happens on the browser.

That sounds frustrating! It seems like the paste and replace function is behaving differently than it should. Have you tried restarting the software or checking for updates? Reboot did’t work, and it happens on web version so I am not able to update it. 🙂

Our team confirmed that this is a bug, and they’re proactively investigating to reproduce and fix the issue. We’ll provide an update on this as soon as we can. 

Any update here? I hadn’t experienced this bug until this week (Mon March 24, 2025). Exactly as OP described where plain text is pasted instead of the intended behavior where a frame/component is replaced with all styling intact. 

This issue recur today, I had no problem to use the short cut for several weeks.

This issue has been happening for me all day. 

I have been experience this issue too, and it has been incredibly frustrating.

I have also experience this issue for the last 3 days, it works selectively. 

I’m hoping someone can help me find a solution. The issue happens both in the browser and the Figma app, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

Here’s what’s happening:

• When I try to copy and paste images into a selected frame, Figma often picks up the wrong content—the last thing I copied instead of the current item.

• The Paste and Replace option (via keyboard shortcut or menu) isn't working correctly either. Instead of replacing the selected item with the copied image, it replaces the selected item with the text of whatever I copied last.

There are moments when it works as expected, but for the most part, it’s not functioning properly. I’ve tried restarting Figma and switching between the browser and app, but the issue persists in both.

if anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve it? I’d really appreciate any help!

so for me it still doesnt work as I would expect it to work but maybe Im also not understanding the feature properly. 
I want to replace an image and this works fine but instead of keeping the Position settings of the Image I want to replace it pastes the rotation and relative position of the Image im Pasting. 

Im using copy/paste properties to make it work but I dont know if its suppose to work like that, but as I said im new to this and maybe I just dont understand the correct workflow. 


 

Paste and match style, this whole shortcut isn’t working for me on broswer (worked with right click)
