I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has encountered a bug with local variables in Figma. I’ve created local variables (color, text, etc.), but after applying them to components and assets, they sometimes vanish and become detached after a while.

This can be frustrating and disrupt the workflow.

  • Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Are there any known workarounds or temporary fixes?

  • Could it be related to a specific Figma version?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and any insights!

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. It sounds strange. We hope to understand properly what you’re experiencing, so would you mind elaborating a bit more on what you mean by “vanish” and “become attached”?

Are you noticing that the colors from the Fill component have disappeared? Or perhaps the color in the variable settings has vanished? If you can, a screen recording of this behavior would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Toku

I’ve experienced kind of the same issue. Some of the local variables are missing from text style editor, see the attached screenshot. Something is apparently changing its scoping settings.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m struggling to replicate this issue. Does it happen suddenly or happen for a long time? Is this happening only for you or for other editors too? Is it both on Figma app and browser?

Could you try the troubleshooting below?

  • Close any Figma tabs you’re not using

  • Browser : Force-quit and open Figma in a new browser window.

  • Desktop App: Force-quit the Figma Desktop app and restart it. If the issue persists, try clearing the cache.

If the issue still continues, Could you submit a bug report detailing the steps that led to this issue? You can do so by following the link:

Figma Learn - Help Center

Thanks,

Toku

This has also happened to me!

Same here. From 72 colors (in dark and light) in the library I have 5 in my working files. I transfered the project already to a customer when I realized it.

Clearing cache did not help at all. So here are the colors and all the other stuff (I have the same problem with fonts) in my library:

And this is all I got in my working files:

It worked fine for a couple of month and now Im totally screwed. So please guys tell us how to fix this

Ok so I found why those colors do not appear. They were set to hide from publishing. But I have never changed that and it was in my private space with nobody else. Random 22 Colors were set to that. And it was not me at all.

Hi @Jean-Marc_Lehwald1 ,

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your file. It looks like you've already been in contact with our support team, so please continue the conversation with them. I hope they can help clarify these issues for you.

Thanks,

Toku

Thanks for reaching out, I found the problem yesterday night on my own @y_toku  …

I never configured it like that and it worked out for month but it looks like that most of the colors got checked “hide on publish” but I have no clue how that could happened. I was working on my own and I would have gone there and click every hook on this random selection. So I really really wonder how that happened. Could this be a configuration problem from one of the last updates or something?
