How do I create a custom shape auto layout!

Hi all!

I have been trying to create a auto layout ribbon component like the below for way to long:

Can someone please help me out and explain to me what im doing wrong. I have found this and followed it but had no luck: Complex Button variant and properties

There’s a trick by putting it outside. The gist of how to do things like that is in this video.
